Dear Love Of Mine

Hospital

-Scott-

I haven't heard from Mitch in two weeks. Worried was an understatement.

"What happened the last time you talked to him?"

"I skyped him and he looked liked he got beat up. He had a black eye, bruised cheek, and a bruising hand print around his neck. What if he's dead, Alex?" I started crying uncontrollably and my friend Alex hugged me.

"I'm sure he's okay Scott."

At midnight, I woke up to my phone ringing. It was an unknown number.

"Hello. Who is this?" There was silence.

"It's Mitch."

"Oh my god! Where are you? What happened?"

"I'm sorry I didn't call you."

"I haven't talked to you in two weeks. The last time I saw you, you look liked someone beat you up."

"It's because someone did. I'm in the hospital, Scott."

"W-Why?"

"The night I got back, when you heard that crash and I had to go unexpectedly, my parents were fighting. I went to check on them when I heard that crash, and I saw my father hit my mother and she fell to the ground. My dad saw me in the doorway and came for me."

"He beat you, didn't he?"

"Yes. But it wasn't the first time. It's worse in the summer when I'm always home. My dad was a drunk, my mom is too but she isn't abusive. She's a druggie so she's always high and ignores me. I'd rather be beaten than ignored, Scott. At least he knows I exist."

"Well beating you isn't the way he should know you exist. You're his son."

"I was. Before I came out. He was a great dad."

"Does your sister know?"

"No. She has no idea. She moved out before he got bad."

"Why are you in the hospital?"

"He tried to drown me. I almost died but my mom hit him with a baseball bat."

"What's going to happen to him? They know he did it, don't they?"

"Yes. My mother and I told authorities. But it doesn't matter."

"Why doesn't it matter? It's a huge deal. Your father tried to kill you."

"He's dead. My mom killed him when she hit him. It wasn't self defense so she's in custody."

"That's ridiculous."

"She didn't know who I was. She said she wasn't trying to get him off me, she didn't care if I died. She saw it as an opportunity to kill him so he'd stop hurting her."

"Mitch. I'm so sorry."

"It's okay. I'm staying with my sister until fall."

"What happens in fall?"

"I'm staying with you. I'm moving to LA."
