"My dad literally hates me." She began. "Every morning and every night it's the same thing. He comes home with no time for me or my mum, and the only thing he does tell us is to shut up and leave him alone.

"Last night I really wanted to talk to him, so I went into his office and said something. He turned around, red faced, and told me to get out. I didn't understand why he was so mad, but when I looked at his computer screen I saw he was... doing things with his assistant." She paused. "He's cheating on my mum." Tears flowed from her face. "She did nothing to deserve this!" Her face was buried in her hands, as pain filled tears fell from her face.

I pulled her into a warm hug. "I'm so sorry." I didn't know what to say, but I didn't think she wanted me to say anything. Nothing I would've said could make her feel any better. She was so hurt, and I could do nothing about it. Sometimes you just need to let things out, and that's what she did.

Ten minutes later, the young girl pulled away from the embrace. "You okay?" I asked.

"I'll be fine. Thank you."

"You're welcome. I'm Promise, by the way." I told her, walking to the exit.

"Grace." She smiled.

I walked back to the lunch room and sighed when I sat down.

"Wow! That took forever." Theo commented.

"Do you know Grace? She's a freshman or sophomore?" I said, ignoring Theo's comment.

"I think so, why?"

"She was in the bathroom crying her eyes out. Her dad is cheating on her mum and she found out."

"My gosh." Theo looked away from me.

I honestly have so much respect for people like Grace. They go through so much, but the next day they put themselves together hoping no one would notice the pain behind the smile.

The people who are the most hurt have the brightest smiles, because when they do smile it's rare so it shines. I've noticed that. The people who continuously have to pick themselves up after they fall, or continuously have to glue their hearts back together are the strongest. They get up in the morning, knowing that the day will treat them like hell, and get through it.

"Hey," Theo broke my train of thought. "Everything's gonna be okay, yeah?" She said. I nodded my head slightly, picking up my trash and heading to my locker.

"Mum?!" I said, unlocking the front door to my house.

"Up here!" She called to me. I took my school bag off my shoulder and went upstarts to my parents bed room. "How was school?"

"It was okay." I laid in her bed as she cleaned her room.

"Just okay?"

"Yeah, well. I met this girl. Her name is Grace, and she found out her dad is cheating on her mum." I told her everything. How she walked in and saw whatever her dad was doing on his computer, and how her dad yelled. Every time I tell the story, or replay it in my head, my heart breaks for her. "She's such a sweet girl too. I just don't understand why people get married if they're going to end up cheating."

"I don't know why either, Promise. People aren't happy with what they are given."

"I know. I just want to be a good friend but I don't know what to say to someone like her." I confessed.

"Well then, don't say anything. She probably just needs someone who she can go to and tell them her problems. She needs to get her feelings out and I'd rather she talk to you, then take it out on herself."

"That's true." I said, never realizing.

"I'm proud of you." She told me. "I'm proud that you're able and willing to help people." She smiled and brought me into a hug.

"Love you, mum."

"I love you too Promise." She let go and continued to clean her room. I left her to start on my homework, and made my way to my room. When I got there, my phone rang. I looked at the caller ID and was shocked to see Louis's name appear.

"Hey Lou." I said.

"Hey, can I stop by? Or you come over. I wanna talk." He sounded some what serious.

"Uh... Yea sure." I said surprised. "I'll be there in a little bit." He hung up the phone and I walked back to my mum.

"I'm going to Theo's house." I somewhat lied. I knew if I told her I was going to be with Louis she would start asking questions and I wasn't in the mood.

"Sure. Come home though, yeah?" She smiled and continued cleaning. I walked down stairs, grabbed my shoes and keys and left the house anticipating what Louis had to say.
