Taehyung stares at his phone for what feels like hours.

What the fuck is he even supposed to say? ‘oh, hey Jungkook, listen, I know we hate each other but I really don’t wanna be benched so let’s pretend like we like each other for coaches sake?’ That sounds ridiculous even for them.

He opens up his contacts and clicks on Jungkook’s number (The whole team’s numbers are all sent out via email every year and they all have a group chat together for any kind of practice or game information and team parties, etc.)

Taehyung nods, satisfied and turns off his phone just in time for Hoseok to burst through the door.

“I can’t do it Tae. It’s too hard.” He groans overdramatically before tossing his bag off to the side and plopping down on the couch next to Taehyung.

He props an elbow upon the back of the couch and looks at his best friend with a raised eyebrow. “Elaborate.”

“Namjoon is throwing a party two nights before the next game.” He rubs his face between his hands.

“Why not just the night before?” Taehyung asks curiously. He hadn’t had a chance to check the group chat with all the internal struggle of what to text Jungkook he’d been preoccupied with at the time.

“So no one’s hungover for the game.” He explains and Taehyung hums in understanding. “But that’s not the problem. He fuckin’ invited the dance team cause he’s good friends with like half of them.” He complains. “Why does he have to be so fucking friendly?”

Taehyung snorts, more entertained than he should be by his friend’s torment.

“You’ll be fine, Jimin’s not the type to hold your crush against you or make things awkward.”

That only makes Hoseok groan louder. “That’s the problem! He’s such a good, kind, beautiful guy! He’s gonna treat me exactly the same as he always has with his engaging conversation and gorgeous smile and laugh that sounds like heaven’s bells… and it’s gonna hurt so much more.”

“Or,” Taehyung suggests. “He’ll look at you in a new light now that he knows you like him and he’ll suddenly notice how hot and funny you are.”

Hoseok rolls his eyes. “Yeah, wouldn’t that be nice.”

“Hey, it’s not impossible. It happens more often than you’d think.” He shrugs. “I however, have to make a literal deal with the devil.”

The brunette sniggers. “What, Jungkook?”

Taehyung nods. “We’re meeting at the cafe later today to talk about the whole ‘benched’ situation.”

“You and Jungkook? In a civil conversation? Who thought the day would come!” He laughs.

“I swear,” the younger sighs, “the things I’m willing to do for soccer.”

Hoseok scoffs. “Drama queen.”

“Ya!” Taehyung gawks, pushing the other playfully, “Pretty hypocritical of you to say given the show you just put on!”

“Alright fine we’re both drama queens!” He relents with a laugh. “Listen, if it’s really that bad you can text me and I’ll come get you out of there, okay?”

Taehyung chuckles and shakes his outstretched hand. “Sounds like a plan.”
