The setting is immediately different than last time. He looks around in awe at the digital looking city. All the signs on the empty shops are in korean, and as he looks around at the animated buildings and orange leafed trees, he immediately recognizes where he is.
Taehyung looks down as his body to check his theory. He’s wearing a dark periwinkle bodysuit with pink lining and black padding his hips and biceps. White plates of armor protect his joints and run down the sides of his legs which are covered in logos. He reaches up to his head and- yup. A bulky set of headphones with sharp points at the ears.
He’s in the Busan map of Overwatch and he’s dressed as a fucking male D.Va.
Laughing to himself, he runs over to the nearest building and checks himself out in the glass reflection. His features are flawlessly animated in the style of the game and his blonde hair flowy naturally as if a constant breeze is blowing it despite the stillness of the air.
Goddamn he looks good as D.Va, and he feels like a total badass on top of it.
“Tae?” A familiar voice calls out behind him.
He whips around to see Jungkook standing in the center of the road, gun raised in defense.
Fuck.
If Taehyung thought he looked hot as D.Va, it was nothing compared to seeing Jungkook as Widowmaker.
The magenta and indigo-black suit fits him perfectly, the deep cut neckline shows off his toned chest and a slight hint of his abs. His shoulders and lower legs are heavily protected with bulky, black, cyberpunk looking armor that makes him look like he came straight out of a superhero film or… well, a video game. His dark flowing hair is pushed back off his forehead by a sharp black headpiece with eight red circles meant to emulate a spiders eyes. The part that really kills Taehyung is the holster strapped to Jungkook’s thigh, his muscles straining against the black fabric as he strides towards the blonde.
“What are you doing here? I told you to go with the others to the temple.” He says, confused and slightly frantic.
That’s snaps Taehyung out of his staring (and possibly newfound fantasy) and he remembers why he’s here.
He approaches the younger and places his gloved hands on his shoulders.
“Jungkook, you’re dreaming.” He says, looking deep in his eyes. “This is a dream.”
Jungkook tilts his head and the dazed glossiness from his eyes fades as he becomes aware of the situation and his surroundings. He shakes his head and looks Taehyung up and down.
“Holy shit.” He exclaims in disbelief. “So this is real. You really can go into dreams.”
Taehyung laughs and nods, dropping his hands from the younger’s shoulders and taking a step back.
“Yessir!” He confirms with a smile. “And you play way too much overwatch. This detail is insane.”
Jungkook rubs the back of his neck, blushing as he looks at both of their outfits.
“This is fucking awesome.” He exclaims, changing the subject. “Like this is some next level, sci-fi shit. Getting to be fully conscious in your dreams and travel between them?” His eyes widen. “Does it work on celebrities? Can you bring me to other dreams with you?”
Taehyung laughs at his sudden enthusiasm. “It doesn’t work on people I haven’t met in person, and I’ve actually never tried bringing people along so I’m not sure about that one.”He answers with a smile before biting his lip nervously and looking hopefully at the younger. “You’re really not mad at me?”
He shakes his head in response. “At first I was. I was scared and a little upset but I thought about it and realized you didn’t have bad intentions or anything, you know? You didn’t know you’d walk in on that. I assume dreams are usually less personal and more random weird shit.” He laughs shyly.
“Usually, yeah.” Taehyung agrees while he builds up the courage to ask what had been on his mind since he was left alone in the park. “What did you mean in the park when you said you didn’t want me finding out like that?”
Jungkook’s smile drops and he glances off to the side, shifting his weight nervously.
“Just… that I had that dream. I really like being friends and all the progress we’ve made and I was scared if you knew about that dream you’d freak out and get weird and distant or something.”
The little bit of hope Taehyung had that the younger returned his feelings dissipates with his words.
“Oh.” He tries to keep the disappointment out of his voice
A sudden look of concern crosses the dark haired man’s face, his headpiece moves slightly with the furrow of his eyebrows. He hesitantly drifts forward and lowers his voice. “What’s wrong?”
Taehyung smiles and hopes it looks convincing enough. Maybe if he runs now he can get to that battle the younger mentioned and fight out his feelings.
“You’ve always been a shit liar.” Jungkook smirks, reaching up to brush a loose strand of hair from his face, his finger lingering a little as it brushes against his cheekbone. “What’s wrong?”
Does he realize how hard this is for Taehyung? Does he know his gentle touches make his mind go numb? Does he know how much it hurts to be so close to him without being with him? Goddammit he’s so fucked.
He takes a deep breath, thankful his dreamworld body doesn’t sweat or shake like it’s real world counterpart. Is he really gonna do this?
“I…” He feels that faint beating of his heart, a small tie to the real world. There’s no going back from this. “I was hoping for a different explanation.”
Jungkook sucks in a small breath. It would have been unnoticeable if Taehyung wasn’t watching him so closely.
“What were you hoping for?” Taehyung swears he can hear his voice shaking.
“I don’t know.” This is an out. He can take it back. He doesn’t have to do this… but it’s the best chance he’s got since his nerves are lessened thanks to the effects of the dreamworld plus the residual confidence from how hot he looks in this D.Va outfit. “I guess I was hoping to confirm the feelings were mutual.”
Jungkook is definitely breathing unevenly now and Taehyung wonders if he’s making a mistake.
“Feelings?” He asks, body clearly tense. Alarms blare in his head: turn back, turn back, turn back.
He nods. Fuck it.
“I like you Jungkook.” He confesses finally. “Like...more than a friend.” When Jungkook doesn’t respond, he continues. “I understand if you don’t like me back but just please don’t distance yourself from me? I really like our friendship and don’t want to lose you, I promise I won’t make it weird or make moves on you or whatever.”
Jungkook stays silent, eyes wide, and Taehyung’s heart breaks a little.
After a while he finally opens his mouth, the words that come out aren’t anything like Taehyung expected.
“Hoseok and Jimin have a lunch date tomorrow. Come over so we can talk in person. Okay?”
Taehyung nods, a little confused and a little scared.
“Okay.” He agrees, looking down at Jungkook’s armored legs. Suddenly a pair of arms wrap around him. Once he realizes what’s happening, he sighs and allows himself to melt into the hug, wrapping his arms around Jungkook’s small waist while the younger tightens his hold, one arm wrapped around his shoulders, the other caressing the back of his head.
“Don’t worry.” Jungkook says softly into his hair. “It’s not a bad conversation, trust me.”
Taehyung nods into his neck and before pulls himself out of the dream before he can fully breakdown in his arms.
He opens his eyes and stares at the ceiling, pulling the covers higher as he curls into a ball and prays Jungkook’s last words will stay true.
