Where on earth were they headed? Arlo thought of possible solutions as they continued to walk away from Wellston. Maybe they could find a secluded area and make a camp but they didn't have any materials. They could also return the students to their houses but more than half of them are orphans.
At this point Arlo was in panic. He was leading the students to an unknown place while being hunted down by the police. He tried to remain calm but was failing miserably. Isen took notice of this and decided to act on it. "Are you alright there?" Arlo shook his head and continued leading the group. "What's wrong?" Arlo grabbed isen by the arm and pulled him forward. "Isen I have no idea where to take them" Isen looked back at the crowd and then back at Arlo with a horrified expression. "WHAT?!" Arlo covered Isen's mouth. "Please be quiet about this I don't want them to panic." The students quieted down trying to listen to what was happening in front of them.
Arlo removed his hand from Isen who was still in shock. "Arlo... we need to find a safe place now. Don't you know what they do to captured runaways?" Arlo knew very well what happened to those who ran away. He had heard many stories about runaways. How they were captured, tortured, and eventually killed. Arlo would much rather have a quick death than to be tortured for a whole month. "Do you know anywhere we could go?" Arlo asked helplessly.
Isen thought for a moment. He knew several places he could run to for safety but bringing hundreds of gifted teens to one of those places was just not possible. He wondered if by separating the groups and diving them even more they would be able to find a safe place. However 1 person wouldn't be able to defend 50 students. Maybe if there was a way that they could somehow pretend to be a 'normal' they would be able to find a house. Isen looked at his marked arm. He sighed. they wouldn't be able to act as normals not with the marks on their arms. Maybe they could go up to a nicer part of town but that would also be risking the chance of being reported to the police.
The two boys were deep in thought as they continued walking on the tail with the students following close behind. The sun was getting lower and lower and soon enough the cold wind started to blow. They had made it out of the city but now they were stranded in the middle of nowhere.
The students became tired after walking for hours non-stop. Some of them wondered if Arlo was going to kill them by leaving them stranded in the middle of nowhere. The thought made them uneasy. "Arlo..." Arlo turned his head to Isen. "You got an idea?" Isen shook his head. He wished he had. "Arlo the students are getting tired and some of them are losing faith in you" Arlo frowned. Why wouldn't they trust him? He pondered. After walking for another half hour he was hit with a wave of exhaustion and decided it would be best if the students got rest.
"We'll camp here for the night" Arlo said pushing past isen and walking towards the students.
"Hey Arlo" Remi called out running towards him.
"Remi we're spending the night here we need rest"
"What?! We don't even have food or shelter"
"Remi we don't have a choice we need sleep and as for food I'm sure we can find some tomorrow."
"but what if the police come after us while we sleep?"
"we'll do guard shifts."
Remi sighed. Was Arlo really going through with this? She walked back towards her group. "hey guys we're going to be camping here for tonight!"
The students started to complain. They all yelled and argued amongst themselves.
Blyke activated his ability and shot a small beam in the middle of the crowd. "SHUT UP FOR FUCK'S SAKE YOU'RE GIVING ME A HEADACHE! IF YOU DONT WANT TO CAMP HERE THEN FINE LET THE COPS COME AND KILL YOU BUT I AM NOT GOING TO BE DEALING WITH THIS KIND OF CROWD" The students fell silent. Remi pulled on Blyke's arm.
"Yeah what?"
"Don't you think that was perhaps a bit... too harsh?" Blyke gave her a confused look. "they won't listen to you if you don't prove you're better than them"
"I know but could you try to be a little nicer?" Blyke sighed. How could he refuse a cute face like that? "Alright I'll tone it down next time" He mumbled. Remi smiled. "Alright well then we should help get them to sleep. Also, we need someone to stay awake for the night"
"I'll stay up and watch, you and the rest should go get some rest" Remi nodded and organized a place for the students to sleep.
It was hard to get comfortable in the middle of the grassy field. Remi lay on the ground not being able to sleep. The grass was too itchy and there were bugs crawling on her as well. She sat up and spotted blyke sitting near a tree. Remi made her way towards him. "Couldn't sleep?" Blyke asked noticing her getting closer. "Yeah" Remi brushed off her uniform and sat next to Blyke. "The grass is really annoying" She said resting her head on blyke's shoulder. "You're much more comfortable" Remi muttered falling asleep. Blyke face turned bright red. How could she say that so casually and just fall asleep?!
Blyke slowly lowered her head onto his lap positioning her into a laying position and played with her hair. "Good night" He said leaning back against the tree and eventually fell asleep himself.
What a stupid thing to do
