When the night reaches its end and is greeted by a miraculously perfect morning, Jackson Tontione stirs as the light from the open window blinds shines over him.
Jackson: "Ooh, yeah. Another day, another subject to learn about in the world. Wait! Today is the day we start to build the houses! I better find some work clothes."
Warrick: "Jackson! Are you awake? I'm heading to the school with the girls. Jump in! Time to go!"
Jackson: "Hang on! I'm almost ready."
Jackson quickly gets into the truck, wearing his work clothes. Taciana and her sisters are grinning at him and chattering excitedly, also dressed in work clothes. The teenagers pick up breakfast on the way and dash towards school. None of them can wait to get started. Their friends are all waiting as they drive up to the high school parking lot and rush over. The teachers are outside and there are several buses filled with teenage furries.
Principal: "Listen up! Today we are going to be building Flats for Furries! You will all be split up into groups when we get to the build site. Pay attention to the teacher in charge, they will assign your jobs. Also, be careful! We don't want anyone hurt."
Quickly Jackson and the others climb on board one of the busses.
Serena: "I am so excited! This will be great. Missing school and helping others!"
Warrick: "It's a good thing I'm here. They'll need my muscles to help."
Jackson: "I wonder what job I will be assigned."
A teacher walks down the bus as it drives slowly through the town. She hands each person a slip of paper with their name on it, and their job.
Jackson: "Huh. Installing windows."
Taciana: "Me too! We will be working together!"
Tawny: "Ohh there it is! Just ahead!"
The busses pull in and the friends separate by groups. Jackson is glad to be with several people he already knows. For the rest of the day, the furry teenagers work hard. They build the frame for the house, then put up the sides, all working together. Some furries hang the doors while others, like Taciana and Jackson, put in windows. It's getting late, but the house Jackson is working on is nearly done.
Ramona: "Whew. I'm tired. Tomorrow when we come back, we get to do the really fun stuff!"
Serena: "Yeah! Painting and decorating, and fixing up the outside!"
Jackson: "I have to admit, this is a lot more fun than I thought it would be. It was pretty amazing getting to be part of this."
Taciana: "It's not over yet, my handsome dhole. Just wait til it's completed. I bet you feel even prouder. I know I'm so proud of you for helping! Tonight, we should go have dinner out. I want to take you to my favorite place. It's really yummy, you'll love it. And we deserve the treat for working so hard.
Jackson: "Whatever you say, honey bunny. But I think I need to get cleaned up first! I've been working so hard, and smell like it, too."
Taciana: "Oh Jackson! You are so funny! Yes, let's go home and get ready."
Everyone climbs back onto the busses. As they drive away, Jackson can't help but think how amazing it was that just a few hours ago, there was a grassy bit of land, now, there's an almost finished house.
Jackson: "So where should we go for dinner?"
Taciana: "Oh, we have to go to this one restaurant known as the Golden Aqua, babe!"
Jackson: "You got a deal, bunny bunch."
