The first thing I do when I wake up is check my phone for an update on two situations, the first, Lucy's health, and the second, who was targeting her. I need to check out some stuff at Lukas' house with Parker later on today, and I head out to the hospital to see her.

In the corridor outside Lucy's room, I see Lucy's family, her mother, her father, Elizabeth, Harvey, Amelia and Laya. Her mother has her head buried in her father's shoulder, and Laya holds the children.

"I hate that boy." Her mother sobs, and I take a look at innocent Amelia, who is looking around, confused and unaware of her eldest sister's coma.

"As do I, Helen, as do I, but there is nothing we can do but wait. Do not feel guilty that you couldn't find out about Lucy until today because of the business." He says reassuringly. Lucy has a very wise father.

I feel a pang of jealousy, wanting to have a kind hearted father like Lucy does instead of one who left years ago for another woman and another life, leaving his debts behind.

Lucy has been through a lot in the past two years, why should I add to it? Why should I go after her prized possession whilst she has suffered enough mental and physical pain already? My thoughts say.

But you enjoyed that kiss, it was different from any before- No, Is scold myself. She's nothing. She means nothing.

Or does she?

I wait until her family leave, and then go inside to see Lucy. Her face is pale, her cheeks don't have her natural redness in them, her lips aren't a rosy pink like they usually are, they are slightly blue but still looking a bit pink.

Lukas is sitting in there with Parker, and I look back at Lucy's face, which is sound asleep.

"You know," Lukas says, "that they say the people who are in a coma can hear you?"

Parker and I both nod.

"Well, we could tell her that she needs to wake up and that-"

"-Stop being depressing, it's creeping me out, man." Parker interrupts Lukas, and I chuckle lightly.

I look at Lucy, and want to reach my hand out and run my hand around the curve her bottom lip. I remember my best friend's sister is not single and her boyfriend is someone I hate, so I resist.

She is innocent, she has done nothing wrong at all, so why would this Joe Hawkins beat her? She would never cheat, I know that, I can see that she is too loyal, too protective. She is haunted by her past. Why would he even carve into her skin? My eyes wonder to her wrist, and then, I see it. The scars.

The actual word of freak is in long, jagged letters, which are paler than her skin. I am horrified to see them, and judging by the scars, when they were carved, they were pretty deep into her skin. I then gaze at the five long scars across her wrist, just above the FREAK scars, and see how they are slightly jagged. Considering that Lucy is a tough girl with a fighting spirit, this boy must be really broken her heart and shattered her into a million pieces.

"Samson, you listening, mate?" Lukas says, interrupting my thoughts and I look back at them.

"Yeah! Of course!" I exclaim, only to see them both raise their eyebrows.

"So, anyway, Parker, when my sister wakes up, you can have her. Do all you want! Even have sex with her!" Lukas says.

I don't really know what even happens to me. But something inside me snaps at the thought of her having sex with someone else.

I am holding one of my best friends up against the wall, taking short, ragged breaths, trying to control myself.

I realise about three seconds later what I am doing and let him go then run a hand through my hair.
