I’m heading to 3rd floor to do my rounds on my patients and I’m in the mood to take the stairs. As I climb the stairs, I spotted Dr Choi, eyes shut and whole body was glued to the wall near the door.

“What are you doing here?” I asked as I walked in front of her and saw how I shocked her by suddenly appearing in front of her without her caution.

“O-oh Professor Im!” She politely bowed her head after she pulled herself.

“You okay?” she seems tired. It was her first year being a completely resident in my department. A pediatric department to be exact. “Haven’t you eaten yet?”

“Not yet. The emergency Centre was swamped with patients, so I haven’t even sat down all day.” Once again she leaned her body against the wall. She wasn’t used to this thing since she was a new doctor and I guess she had not a hard time on her internship.

“Go and eat something.” I suggested.

“I have so much to do. I need to prepare for Kim Ah Joong’s surgery. I have to dress Park Ha Sun’s wound too.” She released a deep sigh out of tiredness.

“The first year was like that. If you endure it, things will be better on the second year.” I patted her head lightly “I’ll take care of the latter for you. That will give you time to eat, right?” Her face lit up and she suddenly smiled widely.

“YOU’RE THE BEST!” her outburst shocked me. Aishh! I’m about to smack her head when she walked to the door then stop momentarily and turn to look at me. “Prof Im! Saranghae!” she do the finger heart before completely leaving me amused to her dorkiness.

Geez! That choding.

I went out of the door too then do my rounds on my patients. I entered the first room where the four kids with different health condition is, then I spotted Dr Hwang who’s busy having conversation with one of the patient’s guardian.

I decided to retreat because I know Dr Hwang already did the checking on the kids there. I went to the other room and saw that one of the kid was still awake. I walked my way to her and sit on the provided chair next to her bed.

“Hi.” The kid smiled at me as she saw me sat on the chair. “Why are you still awake?” I lifted the edge of her hospital dress then took out my stethoscope to establish my medical credentials and listened knowingly to her chest and elsewhere to check her breathing. After checking that breathing and heart was fine I put back my apparatus inside my gown’s pocket then used my middle and index finger to put pressure on different side of her abdomen. “Do you feel pain anywhere?”

“No. There’s no place that hurts.” The kid cutely answered on me. I smiled on her then pulled down her clothes since I’m done on the checking.

“Annyeonghaseyo.” I stand on my feet and look where that voice came. There’s a chestnut brown hair woman who’s standing at my back. She bowed at me then walked closer.
Wow. Is she a model or something? She looks like one though and she also looks like a masterpiece. She’s so gorgeous.

A wave of a hand snapped be back to my senses but lost my mind again as I smelt her perfume. She smell sweet.

“Doctor.” A gentle tap on my shoulder finally brought me back to reality and here she was. Too close at me.

“A-Annyeonghaseyo. A-Are you S-Sooyeon’s mother?” I asked and stuttered on my words as I took one step back leaving us a space because This woman, I don’t know to be exact how can she snapped me out of my sense almost immediately.

“Yes, I’m finally getting to meet you. I haven’t been able to come because I was busy.”

“H-her aunt h-has been taking g-good care of her same with our doctors.” What’s wrong with my words? And why am I stuttering?

“Thank you Ma’am,” She smiled warmly and felt me being nervous and I don’t know why.

She bowed at me then take her steps to her daughter’s side and held her hand and lean to give her daughter a peck on its lips. Sooyeon circled her arms around her mother for a second before letting go. I watch the cute scene in front of me and I can see to Sooyeon’s eyes how happy she was that her mother was there.

“Yoongie.” Dr Hwang went to my side and Sooyeon’s mother greeted her and she did the same.

“What are you doing here?” I asked her.

“I’m here to do rounds but I guess the work is done already.”

“Yeah. Done checking Sooyeon.” I said then smiled on the kid who’s smiling also same goes the mother on her side and here my heart again beating almost double to its normal heartbeat.
Why am I being nervous?

“Come on now.” I nodded at Dr Hwang and we bid goodbye to the kid and her mother not forgetting to take a one last glance on Sooyeon’s mother and happened to saw that she’s staring at me as we take a leave. My eyes didn’t let pass the truth that she smiled at me. I felt the nervousness again and also felt my face heat up on that.

“Let’s grab food together.” My colleagues suggested while we are walking

“You go. I already ate a while ago… I’ll be on Ha Sun’s room to dress her wound. See you around.” I waved her goodbye not waiting for her response as I head to Nurses ward to ask for what I need but the face of Sooyeon’s mom didn’t leave my mind. I don’t know what’s happening. I leave a sighed and just shrugged my shoulder to it.

As I came. I saw how tired all of the nurses. I lay my arms on the counter and put my chin above my arms and watch Nurse Kang yawning. I giggled and I happened to do it a little loud that shocked her and became statue in front of me.

“Annyeong.” I waved on her. She still had her mouth wide open from yawning a while ago.
I closed her mouth using my hand and she flushed, maybe embarrassed.

“Annyeonghaseyo Prof Im.” Head Nurse Bae came out from her office with papers on her hand.

“Annyeong. Have you ate already?”

“Wae? You gonna treat me good meal?” She asked with a lit face. Dropping honorifics since its past midnight already. And I cool to them dropping honorifics Everything’s fine with me. That’s how they know me. I’m just cool with everything.

“No. I just asked.” I saw her pout and I chuckled before turning to Nurse Kang who has an unpleasant look. Ho! Ho! Ho! I sense jealousy. But I’m not in the mood to tease her and make her jealous more. “Seulgi-yah, have you ate already?” she shook her head as no. “ Bae Joohyun, why don’t you and seulgi grab dinner on the cafeteria. Leave the ward to the nurses who already ate their dinner.” I’ll be your Cupid. I chuckled on what I’ve thought. Playing Cupid to the both of them will gonna be fun. Sensing that someone is staring at me I came back to the real world and saw that these two were eyeing me weirdly like I was some kind of crazy.

“Hey! Hey!. Don’t look at me like that. I’m not crazy. I just thought something that made me laughed. Now. Leave and eat.” I walked inside the ward and pulled Seulgi’s arm so she can stand on her feet and lead her beside Irene and pushed the both of them out of the ward. “Go. I’ll serve myself.” I gave them an assuring smile. They left to eat though. I entered the storage room and took all the things that I need to dress Dr. Choi’s assigned patient’s wound. After getting my things I went to Ha Sun’s room. And dressed her surgery’s wound.

Work’s done! I can finally rest! I’m still on duty but there’s no things to do so I guess I need a little bit of fresh air.
