Chapter 16 - The Price Of War

Y/n POV

I stand outside of the tent looking into the forest watching the sleeping creatures of the night wander and sleep. The peacefulness of the forest sooths the soul.

I worry for Logan a little bit he's not in full strength yet and I can't wait to see how Levin likes his new big brother...

I hear the tent door opens and Dante comes out and goes by the fire looking at the stars. I purposefully sneak up on him.

"Nice night we're having, huh Dante?"

I smirk.

"...Hm? OH! Oh my goodness you scared me Lord Y/n! Don't ever sneak up on me like that again! I was about to draw my blades!"

Dante exclaims.

"You should learn to restrain from acting before knowing the situation."

I tell him.

"Agreed but...geez I just finished training give me a break, whew...why are you awake so late? You do this a lot, huh?"

Dante figures.

"I do notice that I do this a lot, I'm excited to get home."

I look into the night sky.

"Heh, home...I would be too if were you. It must be nice to have people to go back to...a place that you can call your own..."

Dante quiets down his expression changes to a grim one.

"Did I say something....?"

I ask concerned.

"Eh? Um...Kind of...it's a long story..."

Dantes says.

"Well, we got a while until morning. Wanna tell me?"

I ask. Telling someone about a past can get it off your chest and you feel free from the pain you had went through.

"I don't know if I want to tell you...or anyone for that matter."

He chuckles sadly.

"Why not let me get to know you? You're going to be living with me."

I ask.

"True...uhm...but I did tell you it's a long story, so...you've been warned."

Dante warns.

"I get it. Go on."

I say.

Dante starts explaining his past and how much he admired his big brother. One day his brother tried to get the Lord's daughter to fall in love with him but the Lord and guards found out some how. He schemed a lot to get his way to where he was.

He was executed the next day for what he did. Several days had passed and his brother some how became a shadow knight destroying his village except one person. Dante. His brother didn't kill him nor erase his memories, the last thing he had said to Dante was 'Someone has to remember' and left. His mother and father no one remembered who Dante was so he left and traveled to another place.

That... must have been a lot to take in when he was a small child I bet...he even erased the memory of everyone of Dante's existence.

"....Dante...."

I was in shock.

"I- I didn't know what to do...How could I convince my mother and father who had zero memory of me that I was their son? I couldn't...So I left. My uncle in another village took me in after I told him of the incident that had happened and he raised me. Ever since that day I swore vengeance on my brother, Gene...."
