As soon as I heard something fall, I rushed into the hallway. Sophie was frozen in shock.
"Foster, what's wro-" I looked down at her phone which was on the floor.
"What's happening?" Eve asked us.
"What....how...when...Forkle?" Sophie stammered.
"We should answer it." I said. She shook out of her daze and picked it up.
"Sophie?" He whispered into the screen.
"What do you want? It's been a year now." I could feel her anger, threatening to spill, as she said the words.
"I know Sophie, but sacrifices must be made in order for protection." He replied.
"Why are you calling me? I have school right now." She shot back.
"We need to do a healing." He answered. Sophie took a step back as he said the words. I went beside her and put my arm around her shoulder.
"Hey Forkle. Nice to finally see that face of yours. Now if you don't mind, who is this healing for?" I asked jokingly.
"Well, it's better if I tell all of you at once." We walked down to the living room.
"Guys, don't ask questions, but Mr. Forkle is on the phone and he has to tell us something." Sophie caught them up.
"As you know, we placed you in the Forbbiden Cities for safety from the Neverseen. Well, we managed to find most everyone. We broke most of their minds, but their is one person we didn't get information from. The council has decided it would be best for Sophie and Fitz to try. You have been doing trust exercises, correct?" He asked.
"Yes." Fitz replied.
"So, wait, you basically want them to come back to heal a mind, get info, then return here?" Biana confirmed.
"Yes. That is what I'm asking. You have until tomorrow evening to decide. If you decide to help, you know how to reach me. If not, I will be leaping to your house to make sure. Good luck." The screen went blank.
"Okayyy. Sensing tension. Walking away." I said, slowly backing out of the room. Sophie grabbed my arm.
"Where are you going? We need to try not to think about this. We still have to go to school. It's Friday today, so we have all of tomorrow to figure this out." She directed.
"I agree with Foster." I said.
"Of course you do." Fitz replied, throwing a pillow at me.
"Oh, It's ON!" We all burst into a giant pillow fight, until Linh looked at the clock.
"GUYS! SCHOOL STARTS IN 5 MINUTES!" She screamed over the noise.
"NOOOOOO! Let's go!" Sophie ushered everyone out the door.
We got to school just as the first bell rang. Apparently, if you don't go to University and study things you can't get a good job. Foster forced me not to skip. I take the Creative Arts and design program with Eve, Dex takes the Technologies and Material program, Marella and Biana take the Food program, Linh takes the Social Sciences program, Tam takes a Business program along with Wylie an Fitz, and Sophie takes a Vet Science program. We all go our separate ways. As soon as Evangeline and I reach the art class, we find go to our station and start finishing our paintings from this week. This week we were supposed to paint someone in our family, so we both ended up painting Sophie. I also had a really big nerve wracking question to ask Sophie, but of course Forkle had to go ruin that. Adults are no fun. Well except for the Art teacher. She doesn't lecture us, she shows us and we all take some sort of Business thing to go with Art. One of my calss mates, Rose comes up to Eve and I. Eve tenses up. Her ability Forkle triggered was a mix of a lot of the abilities put together. I knew she could feel all the worry and stress radiating off Rose. Humans.
"Do you guys know where my flat tip paintbrush is? I can't seem to find it anywhere." She asked. Rose kind of reminded me of Oralie. She had long golden locks, shimmering blue eyes, and always wore some sort of pink.
"Sorry, haven't seen it anywhere. Eve?" I said looking and Evangeline.
"No sorry. Hope you find it." She answered.
"Thanks anyways." Rose said with a sigh, before leaving.
We finished our painting before anyone else. The art teacher came to me first.
"Wow Keefe. This is amazing. Who is it?" She asked.
"This is my girlfriend Sophie. She's not really my family, but she might as well be. Plus, my parents aren't really the best people ever." I responded.
"Interesting. You can paint better then most of the people who have been taking this program for years. Where did you learn?" She look intruiged.
"I taught myself." I explained.
"Very interesting." She moved to Eve.
"Ahhh, I see you painted the same girl as Keefe. Who is she to you?"
"Well unlike Keefe, she is actually related to me. She is my sister." Evangeline told the teacher.
"I see. Quite like Keefe, you draw much better then a lot of these kids. Did you also teach yourself?"
"Well I used to be able to paint pretty good, but not complicated things like humans. Keefe taught me most of what I know." I smirked at her response.
"These are remarkable. Since we are going to be painting for the next few weeks, I'll give you 2 different assignments, and we can take the paintings and hang them around the class and maybe school." She explained. My eyes widened.
"Really?" I asked.
"For sure. I will talk to Mrs. D about hanging them around the school. You 2 are free to do what you'd like." She said walking away.
"Why don't we start on that friend portrait we were going to do?" I ask Eve.
"Sure."
And that's how we spent the rest of class.
