I don't know what to think, except that Katrina can't leave. She's my connector, my partner, the only one I'll ever find. If she leaves we won't be able to wield our fire.
"We'll figure something out." I murmur, sitting next to her. I'm worried, what will happen if we can't stop her mom?
Katrina will get dragged along with her.
"Don't worry. It'll be ok. It has to be." I say, rubbing circles on her back, trying to soothe her.
Then Katrina looks over at me, her eyes red and puffy. "Let's run." She says through gritted teeth. At first, I think she is joking, but I see no energy to play around in her.
She's serious.
I don't know how to answer that. "What do you mean?" She looks at me, hopeful. "I mean, let's leave. We'll find somewhere where no one can find us. We'll train to use our powers, live without fear of getting kidnapped. Jack, think about it, no one can hurt us and we'll help where we can, that's what you said right? We defend the planet we are on. Please Jack!"
I can't answer that question. I can't, not because I don't want to, but because I don't know how. She looks at me, eyes desperate. "Hold on Katrina, we should probably think about other alternatives."
I try to choose my words carefully, not wanting to upset her more. "We have to be absolutely sure you're unable to stay. Then we can try to find an alternative so you can stay."
"Then what?" She asks me. I sigh and look at my feet, quiet for a minute. "I don't know."

Katrina doesn't want to go back, but she has to. There's nowhere else for her to go, she can't stay with me, the only thing I can do is take her home.
Before walking inside, Katrina turns around and embraces me, "I'm gonna miss you Jack." She mutters to me, tears still running down her face.
"Don't talk like that Katrina. It's going to be ok. We're going to figure something out." She looks up at me, eyes wide like a puppy's. Wordlessly, she nods, turns around, and steps inside.
I turn around and start heading back. Halfway home, I hear thunder far off in the distance and begin to walk a bit faster, not wanting to get caught in the incoming storm.
When I open the door to the apartment building and finally reach my room, I let out a loud sigh.
What are we going to do? I don't know what the answer to that question is and it scares me.
I'm scared for Katrina, and I can't do anything about it.
