It was one week until Christmas break so I couldn't understand why my parents would make me move schools now. Except I wasn't just moving schools. I was moving countries too. You see , I'm from Tennessee. My Dad just got a new job over in Port Talbolt , Wales in the UK. I had no problem leaving because let's just say that things didn't go to well in my last school. Let's just say that I stuck out like a sore thumb. This was my chance to make a new start for myself , to get noticed by people. I started a new school on Monday 15th December and I was supposed to finish school for the end of the term on Friday 19th. I begged my Mom for me to stay off school for the week and settle in but she said that going to school that week was a good way to meet new people. I met new people alright. Most of them , not so nice.
I was so awkward on my first day. Nobody talked to me and I talked to nobody so I guess it went pretty well if I wanted to draw no attention to myself. But I didn't. Maybe that's my problem , I'm always wanting to reach out to people and then bad things happen to me , I have an opinion people. Anyway I'm getting off topic. I woke up on the Monday and felt like rubbish. My eyes could hardly open I was that tired , this was not going to be my day. I got into the shower to wake myself up and then I dryed and streightened my hair. I thought that my morning was going well until I found out about the uniform policy at my new school. At my old school there was less of a polocy , mainly because there was no uniform , that morning it took me twenty minutes to figure out how to do a tie , I got it eventually though. When I was fully ready I was 5 minutes late and I'd probobly miss the train. Luckily my Dad didn't start his new job until Wednesday and he offered my a ride to school. I obvioisly accepted because there was no way I was walking into school on my first day late.
I got to school at 8:30 AM to find that I had 20 minutes to do what I pleased. I decided that I would go onto school campus and make some friends. First I walked up to a group of girls who looked nice but I was proved mistaken when I tried to make friendly conversation with them. "Hey" I said.
"Who are you?" asked one of the girls with long auburn hair that all of the younger girls were envious of.
"I'm Sarah James , I'm new here , I've just moved here from Tennessee , could you please show me around?"
"American , I'll bet you think that you're better than us because of your upbringing although it mustn't have gone well if you've had to move away" said another girl who had fluffy white hair that reminded me of a pixie's.
"So is that a no?" I questioned
"Obviously we're not going to help somebody like you , we've earned our popularity here and you must do the same , we're not talking to you until you do the same" said the auburn girl.
I didn't stick around to catch their names but I had a feeling that I'd run into them again anyhow.
8:50 AM the bell rang and I looked at my timetable to see what room I'd be in for homeroom or form as people in the UK call it. I was in room 12 and you'll never guess who was in my form. If you guessed "The mean girls from earlier" then you're 100% correct. I walked into the room to find 30 children staring at me as if I was some kind of alian to them. I looked through the unfamiliar faces as the teacher introduced me. They looked like regular people to me so why did I look so different to them? Each and every eye was on me and I had no idea why.
"I think that you would get on well with Leondre , go and sit in the empty seat next to Leondre , if there's any problems with your assigned seat then you can talk to me about it and I'll swap you with somebody else" said Mrs Willis. I looked around the room for my seat and when I found it I started walking to it. As I walked down rows of seats somebody stuck there foot out into the isle and I fell and landed right next to the girl with white hair.
"Don't you think that you should be sitting down at a desk? If you stay down there something bad might happen to you , like this" she said as she kicked my brand new bag across the floor and my books spilling out.
When I was getting up I heared somebody say "I'll get those for you"
I turned around and saw a boy get out of his seat and start collecting my belongings.
"Why did you do that to me?" I asked
"Because you've decided that you're moving in next to Leondre , that's Lauren's seat , she's going to be so mad at you when she comes back" said the auburn one.
I hadn't noticed but while I was talking to the mean girls Leondre had put everything back in my bag and had his hand out ready to help me up. I politely took his hand , got up and sat in the empty seat next to him.
"Hi , I'm Leondre but you can call me Leo" he whispered so that Mrs Willis wouldn't hear us chatting.
"I'm Sarah and you can call me Sarah because I don't recall there being any way to shorten that" I replied whittily.
He smiled at my reply which for some reason made me smile.
"Leondre? I mean Leo , do you know where room 27 is? I asked as I didn't know my way around the school yet
"Yeah , do you want me to take you there?" he replied
I was about to tell him that I'd love him to walk me to class but then a girl leaned over from the next table and said "Leondre has friends to catch up with but luckily I'm heading to room 27 aswell , I'm Zoe and I can take you wherever you need to go , does that sound good?" she said
I had to agree with Zoe because I was in no position to turn anybody down. This new girl in town was about to make some friends.
