Rayla and Callum were laughing to the point of tears as Y/N finished reading Ezran's letter aloud, her hair a mess, and Dorian looking very pleased with his work.

The hawk had come into the camp screaming, hitting Y/N in the face with the letter protection capsule and preceding to literally shake her around, feathers everywhere.

The others had woken up with a start to Y/N yelling and smacking at Dorian, who suddenly stopped and settled himself on her shoulder, looking exceedingly proud of himself.

Fortunately, he had come right as dawn broke, so they weren't up too early. She had immediately taken out the letter and read it.

Presently, Y/N began to pull the large feathers from her hair, trying to straighten out the knots and untangle everything. Rayla, still laughing, stood up and walked over.

"Here, lemme help ye." She snorted, pulling the rest of the feathers away and fixing her hair.

"Let's just get going." Y/N said groggily, picking up her pack and glaring at Dorian, who tilted his head innocently in response.

They smothered the fire and continued along the rocky path, Callum tripping a few times as he was still waking up. Zym was fully awake, however, and chipper as usual, hopping around and sniffing every rock and pebble until he began to fall behind, then running to catch up, and repeating the cycle.

After about an hour, the sun was all the way up, and Rayla was becoming visibly excited. We're coming home. Y/N thought uncertainly. I wish I could be as excited as Rayla... The moonshadow elf smiled back at them.

"Alright, princes, we're almost to Xadia, all we have to do is-" She stopped dead, making Callum slam into her from behind.

"Hey- what- what's going on?" He asked, stumbling back. Also confused, Y/N followed Rayla's gaze, and felt her blood run cold.

"It's Sol Regem." She answered, lightly touching Dorian's talons on her shoulder for some sort of reassurance. "That's a big problem. Even for elves."

"So, angry, blind, former king of the dragons. Fun. We're just gonna sneak across?" Callum said in disbelief, looking at the barren, rocky, landscape dotted with stacks and covered in a thin layer of sand.

"I hate sand." Rayla muttered, which seemed to make Callum even more confused.

"Huge sun dragon, and you're worried about the sand?" He asked. Y/N couldn't help but smile a little.

"Me and Rayla are assassins. We're worried about you and Zym, not us. And she never said the sand was her only concern either, she really just hates sand." She explained. "Really, our biggest problem is your clumsiness, and Zym making noise."

"Hey!" He protested, picking up Zym. "I'll keep him quiet, you guys lead the way." Rayla nodded, and jumped to the first rock, rolling a little and motioning for them to follow. Like Callum can follow your movements when you're doing backflips.

Y/N just walked over to her, avoiding the pebbles and stepping lightly on the smooth stone. The wind blew a little, and the sand moved, allowing all three to move a little faster and farther underneath the cover of the small sound.

Zym suddenly began to wiggle around in Callum's arms, squeaking and squirming in fear. And it was going so well too... Y/N thought, glancing at Sol Regem nervously. His head swiveled, and he seemed to stare right at them through his blackened eyelids.
