A pair of arms wound themselves around my waist, as they had done numerous times tonight. Luke had insisted I accompany the band on stage during soundcheck, much to my disagreeance of course. He'd practically forced me to forgive him the night before, keeping me firmly secured by his side, not that I exactly tried to hard to get away. Luke was being extra touchy-feely today. I wasn't sure if it had anything to do with our somewhat intimate moment yesterday.
"Mmm, you smell nice," Luke breathed into my neck, rocking us back and forth slightly. Michael and Calum were fiddling around with their instruments and Ashton was bashing and crashing away on his drum kit. Not many people were supervising as the boys had finished what needed to be done. Luke had me off to the side, he was sitting on one of the amps, me between his legs. His arms were wrapped securely around my waist, his thumbs stroking my sides gently.
"Why're you so cuddly today mister?" I asked, placing my hands on his shoulders and smiling slightly, I couldn't help it, he was far too adorable. His soft, flat fringe and bright blue eyes lifted my mood and planted a never ending smile on my face.
"Can't I just hug my cuddle buddy for a while without her questioning me?" He cracked a smile himself, nuzzling his face in the crook of shoulder. I brought one of my hands up to run through the back of his hair, enjoying the soft sighs that left his lips.
"I guess so," I shrugged, my voice nothing more than a whisper so only he could hear. We remained in this hugging position for several more minutes before someone from backstage told us to clear off so they could soundcheck Hey Violet. We followed the others back to the dressing room, Luke's hand in mine. He swayed our hands back and forth as we walked, squeezing my hand every so often.
I had to admit, as strange as his sudden urges to be close to me were, I was thankful for them. I'd had a restless night due to the ordeal I'd had with Dean the day before. Luke wanted to be there with me most of the night, but I insisted that he get some rest. Michael sat up with me instead. He was furious after he found out what happened, but I quickly calmed him down. We ended up playing Mario Kart for the remainder of the night. Giggling to each other until the early hours of the morning. I don't think I've ever been more grateful to have Michael as a brother than in that moment.
As soon as we entered the dressing room Luke tried to pull me into his lap, but I opted for right beside him. Not wanting to put up with any weird remarks from the other boys if they noticed. Luke huffed when I sat beside him instead of on him, he lay his head on my shoulder, his breath tickling my neck slightly.
"Why don't you wanna cuddle with me?" He pouted, my heart fluttered at the sight of his pouty lips. Maddison get a grip on yourself. This is Luke we're talking about. Friend Luke. Michael's best friend, Luke. Cal and Ashton's best friend, Luke. Your friend, Luke.
"I have to go to the bathroom," I announced only to Luke, gently shoving his head off my shoulder before briskly walking out of the dressing room. I needed room to breath. The butterflies in my stomach made me want to throw up what I had for breakfast this morning.
I stared at myself in the small mirror that hung above one of the four sinks in the bathroom. My head was spinning slightly, my confusion causing my thoughts to become hazy. I felt lightheaded. My feelings and emotions overwhelmed me so much I felt myself slowly becoming consumed by them. Luke was my friend. Luke is my friend. Luke and I are friends. The mantra repeated in my head over and over again. I couldn't come to terms with the fact that I liked Luke. No. No I didn't. Okay, so maybe it was a school girl crush? Harmless. Just a harmless little crush was all, a crush that would wash over and fade away in a few days time.
