"Watch out!" Silver cried a warning. Even with Amber's lightning fast reflexes, she didn't have time to react. She just stood there, petrified, as a pillar of white hot fire blasted towards Scarlett.
Silver appeared in front of Scarlett, blocking the fire with a large wall of ice, refreezing it before the dragon could melt it. Scarlett finally recovered from the surprise enough to help out, using her own ability to disperse the flames. Amber began to help them out too, attacking the dragon with her electricity, but the dragon was suddenly not taking as much damage from it. It was no use, they weren't getting anywhere with these attacks.
"FuaHaHaHaHaHaHa!" A deep, loud laugh was heard, that seemed to echo through the battlefield.
From the corner of her eye, Amber saw a small flicker of light in the clear blue sky above. The object, whatever it was, it was getting closer to them.
Emerald teleported behind Amber, and glistening bubbles filled the air around them. He had appeared just in time to see the missile-like object, a golden rocket covered in large sparkling precious gems, slam into the side of the dragon. Both of them went flying across the battlefield.
All of the bubbles in the air popped at once. They all just stood there, staring blankly in surprise for a moment, before Scarlett burst out laughing hysterically. Silver started laughing, too. He looked back at Emerald's face. Amber turned to see Emerald's expression of complete confusion, which quickly shifted to fiery hatred. Amber had never seen Emerald have an expression like that, and had almost thought the sweet blond-haired boy might be unable to actually hate anyone.
"Well, I guess Blaise is back. Your peace is over, Em." Silver said, after he stopped laughing. "And maybe even the peace of our ears as well." He mumbled the last part. Scarlett was still struggling to stop laughing.
Blaise. That was the name of the person that had been absent from their class the entire month. He had finally come back, and half way through the day. The four friends walked up to where the dragon lay in the corner of the battlefield. It was completely passed out, it was a miracle that it was even still alive. A boy jumped down from high up on a nearby wall, to land on the dragon's body, steadying himself on one of the dragon's spikes.
"Bow down to me, you peasants. Yours Truly is finally back! Did you mongrels miss me? Especially you, Em~?" Blaise said, bowing. Emerald glared at him in response. The boy had glimmering blond hair and prideful red eyes. He seemed kind of familiar but Amber couldn't figure out why. He slid down to the ground and looked everyone over briefly, stopping at Amber. "I heard that a new student transferred here while I was gone. I didn't think it was you." He winked at Amber. "We finally meet again. It's been, what, five years? Do you remember me, Am~?" Amber stared at him blankly for a moment. He continued, sounding just slightly frustrated. "It's me, you fool! Blaise Hiria! Let your ears be blessed with the sound of my name ringing after such a long period of time!" Blaise held his hand out in front of him, and in his palm appeared a gold rose, with a garnet stone in the center. He offered it to Amber. "Do you really not remember me, Amber?"
"Ah!" Amber realized. "Gil-kun!" Amber finally remembered why he was so familiar.
"You two know each other?"
Blaise handed the golden rose to Amber. Amber nodded. "We went to the same elementary school." Amber and Blaise had been close childhood friends. Back in elementary school, Blaise had been the only other esper, and had been there to comfort her when her parents, and later her brother, were killed. But when everyone else found out he was an esper, he had to change schools. This left Amber completely alone after that, having to hide her abilities from then on, too.
Emerald was still glaring at Blaise, even more now than he was before."Why the hell are you back?"
"Emerald has always hated Blaise, ever since middle school, but no one really knows why." Silver told Amber.
