Chapter Fifty | New Year's Reception — 31st December 2020
Juliana and Daniel stood on the stage as Juliana prepared to give her speech. Daniel has already given his speech.
Juliana smiled and held the mic to her lips.
"Your Majesties, Your Royal Highnesses, Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen, family and friends, welcome to all of you and thank you for coming to our New Year's slash wedding reception today which has made it such a very special occasion for my husband and I as we celebrate our love.
Being surrounded by you all has made such a difference to us and we have been overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity.
Every little girl dreams of her wedding day. A day of love and magic that will leave its imprint on her heart forever.
And on Friday, I had my fairytale but it was magnificence and beyond anything I could have imagined. Those past few weeks we secretly planned our wedding and honestly I did not think we would pull through it. Now, to warn you, this is the bit of the speech where I start thanking everyone – please make sure you have plenty in your glasses. I am really grateful to everyone who has helped to make today possible. It turns out that whilst I tell everyone I am very laid-back, the planning process has shown that I am a little fussier than I thought, so thank you to everyone for putting up with me!
Especially my grandmother, father and Daniel! My grandmother has been to every appointment; she has helped me communicate my ideas and has been a staunch supporter of making sure that everything about the wedding reflects Daniel and I.
My father has been there for me from the beginning and always supported me. You have always made me feel loved and have encouraged my independence and I really appreciate everything you have done, not only to make my wedding so special but to help me become the fantastic, beautiful and obviously humble person I am today, so thank you.
I'd also like to say a huge thank you to my new in-laws, you have been really supportive through this whole process and you have really welcomed me into your family. You have raised such an amazing person in Daniel and I promise you that I truly mean all of the vows we have made today and I will take great care of him.
There are so many people here that have influenced and supported Daniel and I and we want to thank you all. We were adamant that today we wanted to be surrounded by people we love, people who have watched us grow and people who will be in our future – so well done, you have all made the cut! Thank you all for being part of this and we can only hope to do you all proud.
Daniel, I knew you were a gentleman when we didn't kiss until the second date, but I won't repeat what you said to me on the third! You came into my life and completely changed it – for the better. I adore you and I would like to thank you for your patience and understanding. Thanks also for putting up with my tears, tantrums and all those bridezilla moments! You are my rock and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life being yours. Thank you for our family.
Last but not least, thank you to each and every one of you for sharing our special day with us. A wedding can happen anywhere and at any time, but it can only be a true celebration when all the people you love are there to share it with you. You have made our day all that more special. Please raise your glasses and drink a toast ... to dear friends and family." Juliana said as she raised her champagne glass as everyone in the room did the same.
Juliana took a sip of her champagne then took a seat next to Daniel, who kissed her cheek.
"Would you like to dance?" Daniel asked.
"I thought you would never ask." She answered with a smile.
Daniel grabbed her hand, helping her up then pulling her out onto the dance floor. It was ten minutes until midnight and the slow songs were over.
