chapter nine

"Guys! That's the police" Pope said when he saw the Sheriff's boat

"Oh! You gotta be kidding me!" JJ said as he looked at his backpack

Blake noticed this and looked at the backpack too.

She couldn't believe how much of an idiot the blonde was.

"Did you really bring the gun here?" She whispered standing next to him

"We don't know when we will need it" JJ told her quietly enough for only her to listen

"You're truly and idiot. Can you imagine in how much trouble we could get if they see it?" Blake scoffed

"They won't" JJ rolled his eyes at the girl and moved to the other side of the boat

Blake sighed as she watched him go. She never though she and JJ would hate each other, she really hoped they could sometime be back to how they used to be. But she wasn't going to forget how he had pulled a gun on her, not yet.

"Evening officers!" Pope greeted the Sheriff Peterkin and Deputy Shoupe when they stopped their boat beside the HMS Pogue.

"Evening" Deputy Shoupe greeted the boy back "Here" he handed Pope a rope to tie it on their boat so he could walk into it.

"What brings you here officer?" Blake smiled innocently at Shoupe as he stepped into their boat

"Just seeing how you kids were doing, Woods. You know the marsh is closed?" He asked them

"No"

"No, wow"

"No way"

"I didn't know that, why is it closed?" They all replied at the same time while shaking their heads

"We are conducting a search out here, a boat went down" Deputy Shoupe informed the teens

"What kind of boat?" Blake asked him again acting as if she didn't know anything

"A Grady-White. Have you kids seen anything?" Shoupe asked them

"Nothing" Blake shook her head, at this point she was the one in charge of the situation as she was the best one faking how nervous they all truly were.

"Where's your friend you always hang with? He here?" The deputy asked as there was no sign of John B

"He's working" Blake simply replied and luckily, Shoupe bought it.

"I'm gonna check your little boat out" Deputy Shoupe said walking around their boat.

Blake couldn't help but look at JJ's backpack, if Shoupe found the gun they were screwed.

"You got another one?" Shoupe broke Blake out of her trance showing her a lifejacket

"Uh...sure, it's in the hold" she replied

"Show him, JJ" Kie said then making JJ show Deputy Shoupe their extra life vest

Deputy Shoupe then walked to the front of the boat and stood there looking at the water, exactly the same spot John B was just a few feet below him into the water.

"Be careful, you don't wanna slip" Pope said making deputy Shoupe stop looking at the water under him

"Alright" Deputy Shoupe said walking back into his boat next to Sheriff Peterkin

"Beautiful day" Shoupe commented once he was already inside his boat.

They had to leave now.

The four teens constantly looked between each other, John B was for sure out of air, he needed to get out of the water.
