When Steve left, I waited a bit before starting the next phase of the plan. The next phase was....let us just say it was unique. When I thought enough time had passed I started to sing. Nothing, in particular, just a random song. I don't even remember what I was singing. It might have even been a song parody, but it did not matter what I sang, just the emotions I was portraying. Music is a very powerful way of expressing emotion, more powerful than words alone. I use this to my advantage a lot.
I made sure I pushed certain emotions whilst I was singing, and I knew that those watching the video from the cameras and the guards in the room were starting to be affected. I was trying to make them remember the best times in their lives and get them caught up in that moment. I wanted that moment to be the only thing they could think about. I wanted my captors to believe they were actually back in that moment and forget about anything else.
It worked.
The guards in my room, a man and a woman, got vacant looks in their eyes and one had a mischievous grin on her face and kept giggling silently. The other was just smiling fondly. Their emotions were strong, and I could see the memories that they were thinking tied to them. I can only see other people's thoughts when it is tied to emotion, especially strong emotions.
I smiled and said to the man, "That was such a nice time, wasn't it? The lake was such a wonderful way to cool off. When you were done swimming your mother made the best chocolate chip cookies. So good the chocolate chips melted in your mouth when you took a bite. Nothing but the best for her little Junebug."
"Yes," he agreed and then looked sad, "But we don't talk anymore... Wait, how do you know about that?"
"It doesn't matter," I cooed. "She misses you. She wants to talk to her little Junebug. She blames herself for what happened between you, she doesn't know what you do for this planet. She doesn't know how much you sacrifice. But now she's dying and she doesn't know how to contact you. All she wants is to hear your voice. Give her a call."
"I-I don't...I shouldn't, shouldn't be engaging in conversation with you..." He said trying to fight my control of his emotions.
"What harm can it do? Just one call," I urged.
Eventually, he caved, and let his emotions take over.
He dialed a number on his phone, "Mom? I'm sorry to bother you but I...Yes...Yes...You do? Mom, I'm sorry I...I will, I promise....I'll be there everything is going to be alright...I promise...Love you too mom."
He took it away from his ear and looked at the now silent phone with a tear in his eye. Putting his phone in his pocket, he pulled out a handkerchief and tied it around his mouth. He then moved the desk, unlocked my cell, and put cuffs on my hands. His companion made no move to stop him and no one came in either.
"I don't know why I'm doing this but I guess you did me a solid. If I hadn't called....well I always pay off my debts."
He led me out of the cell.
Banging his fist on the door, he cried, "Help! There is a gas leak! I need to move the prisoner!"
Immediately the guards outside opened the door and escorted us out, masks and other coverings over their mouths and noses. Hey wait a minute this reminds me of my dimension! It was like when I needed to go to the grocery store only these guys were heavily armed and not middle-aged women fighting for toilet paper.
When they got us out and secured the door another guard asked, pointing to the woman, "What's wrong with Kathrine?"
She was still giggling and staring vacantly at nothing in particular.
