Chapter 26

I sat there watching Scarlett, waiting for her to wake up. I wanted her to wake but there's a small part of me wanting her to stay asleep. I don't want her to find out about her son. That poor baby, he didn't deserve to die especially the way he did. This was horrifying. Dominik was put on trial. Grayson is there but I chose to be with Scarlett. The last thing I want is to see that monster's face. Grayson calls me every time the judge calls for recess and tells me all of the details of what's going on in court.
I want Dominik to sufferer for what he did to Scarlett and her son. He needs mental help. It's either he gets help or the death penalty.

A few weeks have gone by. Scarlett is still asleep like she just got in a coma yesterday. Tomorrow is Jason's funeral and it feels way wrong to do it with Scarlett asleep and her not knowing that there's a funeral for her baby.
"Hey Sky... you need to wake so that we can talk about things. A lot has been going on and I need you. You need to wake up so that I can at least feel like there's some sort of hope." I whispered, holding her hand.
My phone began to ring, I answered the phone with the hand that isn't holding Scarlett's. I didn't want to let go of her.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Hey it's me. Dominik was proven guilty and was sent to get mental help." Grayson explained.
"Thanks." I simply said not even caring. The only thing I really cares for was for him to be proven guilty and getting punished. He deserved to be held back. He could never hurt anyone again.
"That's it?" Grayson asked.
"Yeah that's it." I replied back.
"Alright then. I'll see you tomorrow for the sad event.." He said clearing his throat. I hung up the phone and put my attention over to Scarlett.
"Everything has gotten so tough when you fell into this coma." I whispered.
"You really do love her, don't you?" I turned around to see Scarlett's mom examining me. She looked down at my hand covering Scarlett's. She gave me a small smile.
"She should hate us you know?" She said.
"What? Why?" I asked.
"Her father and I told Dominik that she was fooling around with Tyler, her ex boyfriend, behind his back." My blood began to boil.
"And because of your stupidity she's in a fuckin hospital bed!" I said standing up.
"You have to understand that we didn't want her to be with him. We wanted him to leave her because we knew that he wasn't a good guy." She said. I clenched my jaw and sat back down.
"You still didn't even think of the consequences. Did you two ever think that that would hurt her?" I asked.
"We did but we didn't know Dominik would go and do such a thing." She said.
"You know you two are still to blame for this horrible experience you put her through." I said.
"You try being a parent. I'm sure you would do the same thing." She said fighting back.
"Listen what I would have done is support my kid other than to brake them." I left her speechless. She really had nothing else to say.
"Well if you'll excuse me." She said. She walked out the door feeling guilty. I didn't feel bad for what I said, she deserved to have her eyes opened to the truth otherwise she'd be living a lie.
"Okay Scarlett I'll come back tomorrow baby. This time I'm not staying the night because I have somewhere to be tomorrow. I love you my precious jewel." I kissed her lips and left. I'm not looking forward to life anymore it's making me want to give up.

Grayson and I stood there in the rain, holding our umbrellas, just watching Jason her buried. I cried for him. This was my fault. I didn't do what I promised. I didn't protect them from Dominik. I'm a failure.
"I know what you're thinking." Grayson said.
"What?" I asked.
"This is not your fault." He said.
"It is." I said back.
"No it isn't. This is something that was out of your control. You didn't plan for this to happen." He said. I didn't answer I just watched. The rain got more aggressive but I didn't care I planned to stay here for awhile.
"Hey we should get back home or to the hospital." He said.
"No. I'll stay here for a little while longer." I said.
"Okay. I'll check on you later." He said. I kept my eyes glued to the ground. He took a deep breath then walked away from me. I was left alone by him and the priest.
"Jason, buddy I'm so sorry that this happened to you. We'll miss you. Your mommy will miss you very much and even though I didn't know you very well you'll be missed by me because I feel connected to you." I broke down in tears. This was horrible I never would have thought it would come to this. "You will always be remembered buddy." I whispered. I shut my eyes and stood there in silence for a couple minutes. I have decided to go back home to change back into normal clothing so then I could go see Scarlett.

It's been about a month that went by and still nothing. I sat there just waiting and hoping that her eyes will open.
"Hey?" Grayson said coming in with some coffee.
"Hey." I said.
"Here." Grayson said handing me a cup.
"Thanks." I said taking the cup of coffee.
"She'll wake up." Grayson said.
"I'm starting to believe that she won't." I mumbled.
"She will because she wouldn't be fighting." Grayson said taking a sip of his coffee.
"How do you know that she's even fighting?" I asked.
"Well she probably wouldn't be breathing right now if she wasn't." He said.
Grayson and I spoke for a while until something caught our attention. Scarlett was swaying her head side to side. My eyes widened, I put my hand over hers just to see a reaction.
"Scarlett?" I asked. Grayson and I watched as she finally opened her eyes. A big smile grew on my face. She turned over to see us with her.
"Cole? And uh?" She asked.
"Grayson." I said.
"Or you could call me Grey for short." He said.
Scarlett gave us a little smile. "Okay, Grey." She said. "So where's Jason?"
