Allagash, Maine -11:18 AM-

Sunlight greeted Val as her eyes blinked open. Her hand slipped from the covers of her bed to shield her eyes from the blinding light peeking through her window. A groan uttered in her throat from moving her body even slightly. An ache coursed through her body as Val sat up, letting the covers fall down to her waist. She looked down at herself. She was wearing a large, white T-shirt with a rock band on it and sweat pants. The t-shirt allowed Val to inspect her arms. Scratches, dirt and bruises littered her pale skin. Callouses formed on her hands, few, small splinters poked out of her hands, and dirt collected under her fingernails.

Damn it, what happened last night, she hissed in her thoughts.

The events of last night suddenly replayed in her mind for her. The bonfire, Raileigh touching her, driving home, fallen trees blocking the road, slipping off a tree, the robot, finally dropping Raileigh home, and then sneaking back into the house.

What was that thing doing there? Val furrowed her brows in deep contemplation.

Before she could think more about it, a knock from her door broke her silence.

"Uh, com-" Val stopped herself as a foul emotion filled her thoughts.

The door swung open, cutting off Val's words without acknowledgement. Val quickly covered her arms before the person opening the door could see. In the doorway, stood a tall woman. Waves of dirty blonde hair curled around her head and wide, brown eyes. She was rather skinny, her shallow cheek bones showed for it. Her face was contorted into an upset one.

"Mary... morning." Val grumbled to Mary.

"Kid, it's already noon. Why the hell you sleepin' so late in the day?" She scolded to her.

"Sorry, I just had a really rough night." Said Val.

"Yeah, had a rough night sneaking in I suppose." Val's eyes blinked in fear.

"I-"

"You were home at 12, am I right?" Val's eyes averted away in shame.

"Yes," She looked back up to Mary, "But it wasn't my fault! There were crashed trees in the road on my way to drop off my friend at her house; I was her designated driver. No one was around to help so I had to move them myself. I know what I did was wrong, I promise it'll never happen again miss. Just please don't tell Pa, he doesn't know right?"

After an awkward pause, Mary crossed her arms and spoke, "I won't tell your father, lucky for you, he had to do work outside of town and came home an hour after you did. But I'm telling you, if this happens again, I'm telling your father. You're still under his roof and his rules. Got it?"

"Yes ma'am." Val nodded in defeat.

"Ok then," Mary turned, about to close the door behind her when she turned back, "Maybe take a shower, you look like shit." She spat at Val.

The door made a comforting click when Mary closed the door behind her. Her footsteps vertebrated down the hall as she walked away. Val an annoyed groan when the coast was clear and flopped onto her back.

She tightly shut her eyes and took a sharp inhale, "Fine."

Val stood in the shower, letting the water ease her tense muscles and rinse off the dirt and mud from her body. She ran her hands through her hair, often getting them tangled in a knot with a few twigs and leaves sticking out of it. Her eyes drifted down to her body. She eyed her large bruise that stretched across her side. Purple and patchy, the mark was an aching reminder of what she saw last night and her dream. Even the pitter patters from the shower cascading down onto her and the bathtub couldn't keep her thoughts and worries at bay.
