Allagash, Maine -Unkown Time-

That night, Val hardly slept.

After the events of last night of the bonfire party, and seeing whatever that thing  was in the woods, Val just wanted to go back home. She ran back to the truck quickly. Trying to get as far away from the robot as possible. She jumped into the cabin of the truck and brought it to a screeching start out of the forest. Raileigh was asleep in the truck when she came back and Val didn't bother waking her up, she was in too much of a rush. Hands shaking the entire time, it took Val to pause to calm herself down and put the keys in the ignition.

Luckily, Raileigh's grandfather wasn't home when Val got there. With Raileigh's spare key, Val put her to bed, all the while hassling with Raileigh's unconscious body. Val immediately drove home after that. Not wasting a single second. Not while that thing  was out there.

Val snuck into the house and passed out as soon as her head hit her pillow, but in her sleep, she was plagued by nightmares. She would wake up in the middle of the night in cold sweat slick against her neck from the dreams. Dreams of her being chased by the robot. It would eventually catch her, kill her in ways unimaginable. It would replay over and over of her deaths at the hands of that robot.

Until the dream changed. After a death, she found herself laying in the grass of a forest. It was pleasant, contrast to the previous dark scenes she had been used to waking up in. The forest stretched as far as she could see, It was flat and only filled with trees much taller than her seated form. Golden rays from the sun were sliced up from the towering tress. A light breeze came comfort to her, stirring the grass beneath her and around her body. The forest was quiet. No chirps of birds, no distant calls of animals in the underbrush, nothing. Nothing but the wind and the greenery of the forest rustling in the wind.

She didn't notIce it, but a large, shadowed figure started to approach Val. She heard large footsteps drifting her way, a different sound to the forest.

Out of the shadow of a horde of trees, the robot stepped into the light of the sun. The familiar purple armor glinted in the light and flashed in Val's eyes. There was no gaping hole in it's torso, no cracked and broken lenses in it's eye. The armor was clean and polished, not smeared in dirt and soot. The clear, crimson eye on its face made direct eye contact with Val.

Val did not feel scared. She wanted to be, but she couldn't. Her eyes widened in curiosity. She stepped up from the grass and rose to her feet, grass sticking to her clothing. Val looked at the robot dead in the eye. The deadpan, red eye stared back at her. The head unmoving as the body worked its way to her. No sudden movements, just calm strides to her.

As Val stood there, the wind picked up and got stronger the closer the robot got to her. She stood, awaiting the arrival of the robot. The wind turned into strong gusts that whipped Val's hair when the robot stopped in front of her. The wind making her ears pop and cloud her senses.

The robot suddenly crouched in front of Val, she craned her head down to keep the stare between them. The robot brought it's hand up. The sharp claw glinted in the sun. In her head, Val remembered the capability of it, remembering it being stained in her blood. But she didn't move away from it. She still stood there, staring. Trust forming in her. Trust forming in this robot.

The claw gently turned to stretch its pointer finger out. The robot reached out to her, but stopped in the middle of the distance between them.

Val turned her attention from the robot's eye to its hand, then to her own as she found herself raising it up. Palm up, she slowly reached up to the grey claw that awaited her touch. The wind was so strong and heavy, she felt like her body might be lifted. But her feet were planted into the ground. The robot crouched unwavered and silent. Val's hair lashed in her face, moving violently in the bellowing winds. Strands of her hair cut and sliced at her cheeks. Leaves picked up from the forest floor and started to fly in the air, zooming past, threatening to cut her as well.

Val and the robot were so close to touching fingertips, when leaves and hair blinded Val. Her vision turned to black.

She woke up.
