"Canoeing?"
"With the boy's cabin?!"
You nodded, a pretty sly smile pulling at your lips. "Yep. It's going to be really fun, I promise."
"But what if they try to prank us while we're out there on the lake?!" Layla cried.
"They won't!" you assured her, putting your arm around her shoulders and giving them a squeeze. "Chanyeol and I made peace last night, and we promised we weren't going to do any more pranks. He got in trouble, too, remember?"
You could tell your girls were still a little hesitant, but you urged them to follow you down to the lake, anyway. Chanyeol and the boys were already there, and Chanyeol actually smiled when he saw you. Your breath caught in your throat slightly, but you figured it was because you'd just trekked all the way down here from your cabin.
...Yeah. That was totally it.
"Good morning!" he greeted. "Ready for some rowing?"
Your instinct was to respond with 'We're ready if you are,' but you stopped yourself from going down that competitive road.
"We sure are," you replied instead, returning his smile with a sort of shy one of your own.
"All right, grab your life jackets and your oars, and let's go."
You supervised your girls as they grabbed what they needed, making sure to grab your own life jacket and oar before heading over to the canoes. You and Chanyeol decided to split up into two boats, five boys and five girls in each with you heading up one and him in the other.
Once everyone was situated in their respective canoes, you shoved off from the shore and began rowing out onto the lake.
You glanced over at Chanyeol's canoe, and without thinking, you almost whispered to the campers in your boat to row faster than his...
Apparently, it was going to take a while for you to get over this whole 'no more competition' thing.
Things went great for about an hour: you and your campers rowed all over the lake, crossing paths with Chanyeol's boat quite a few times. You all talked and joked and laughed, and you really were having a lovely time getting to know some of the boys from Chanyeol's cabin. You could tell a couple of your girls had already developed crushes, and it really made you chuckle. You remembered being that age too well, and you needed more than two hands to count the number of crushes you'd had.
Then one of your girls semi-complained that her arms were getting tired, so you relented and told them to turn around and start rowing back toward the shore. You waved your oar in the air to get Chanyeol's attention, wanting to tell him you were heading back.
But you were interrupted by one of the boys letting a short, surprised yell. You turned quickly to face the campers, spotting the bee hovering around the campers' heads.
"Don't move," you ordered, seeing it was just a bumblebee. "It'll fly away in just a little bit."
The bee, of course, flew even closer, and the same boy let out another yell, lifting his oar and swatting at the insect.
The canoe tottered dangerously, and your hands immediately reached out to the grip the sides.
"Stay still!" you cried.
But the boy and your girl sitting across from him were now doing their best to swat the bee away. The canoe rocked back and forth, and the shrill cries of all the campers in it filled the air. And before you knew it, the canoe was tipping over, dumping its passengers into the murky lake water.
