Argent, Scott and I all got started by explaining everything that had already gone down in relation to the assassins. The infuriatingly difficult cyphers, the long lists of innocents, the deaths, the stolen Hale money, all of it. At the lump sum of money, the Winchester's had the same reaction that the rest of us had.
"You guys had 117 million dollars? Son of a bitch!" Dean said in surprise.
"And we'd like it back. I don't want to have to stoop to the low of getting a job," Peter said in disgust. I rolled my eyes at him.
"Oh yes- heaven forbid you have to contribute to society like the rest of us!" I said mockingly.
"Pffft! The only one of you that has a job here is Scott!" Peter defended, and he had me there. Except that we all attend high school in our spare time. When we're not secretly saving the whole town from some other freaking supernatural threat.
"Yes, but we're teenagers- you know, high school and all that insignificant nonsense," I said sarcastically.
Peter pointed at Derek accusingly. "My nephew isn't in high school, and he doesn't have a job either."
I glared at him. "That's because he's too busy saving our asses and protecting this town you jackass! What have you been doing?" I said with just as much accusation in my tone. He just smiled coyly at me.
"Working out mostly," he answered honestly. It showed, and I hated it. I was about to snap at him some more when Scott laid a restraining hand on my arm.
"Can we focus please?" He asked, glancing between us. I narrowed my eyes at Peter, but did as Scott asked.
"We need the third cypher," Argent said, looking at me and Lydia. We both shook our heads.
"Chris- we've tried every single name we know, every person that's died... we've got nothing," Lydia said.
Lydia was right, but we had to be missing something. I let my mind work, trying the piece this impossible puzzle together. Allison- Aiden-... Lydia. Lydia. That's it.
"Wait- Lydia. That's it. This isn't about people that died- not really. It's about you. Allison, she was your best friend. She meant something to all of us, but she was your best friend. And Aiden, Aiden was your boyfriend, sort of. Whatever you want to call it. It's you. We've got to think about people that have something to do with you!" I said excitedly.
She looked at me uncertainly. "But why? Stiles- why would someone make the cyphers about me?"
"Well- it's a dead pool. This whole thing is about killing and death. What if- what if this is about you being a banshee?" I asked, the pieces clicking in my brain as I thought out loud.
Her eyes glazed as she thought, and realization dawned on her features. "What if it's not someone who's dead? What if it's someone that is going to die?" She stated, looking into my eyes.
"A banshee prediction," I breathed. She nodded. "Well? Who's the last persons death you saw happening?"
She glanced at Derek unwillingly before answering and I frowned in confusion. What? No. No, no, no. That can't be right. She was looking at me sadly and I shook my head quickly. Dread and pain were already ripping though my body. Tears were stinging at my eyes. She's made a mistake.
"Lydia- no," I said, my eyes pleading.
"Stiles- Stiles I'm-," she started, tears in her eyes. But I cut her off.
"No- don't say it- please," I begged, and started to sway on my feet. She can't mean Derek. She can't. He can't die. I won't let him. My mate was already behind me, catching me in his arms. I could feel his concern at the emotions coursing through my body and I clung to him desperately. He can't die.
