the disease is scary, sure
but the drama scares me more
the drama leads to quarantines
panicked people with panicked dreams
fretting over everything
because they can't make sense of anything
the drama leads to misconceptions
they don't seem to get the message
"just wash your hands and it will all be fine"
but people still think we're all going to die
the drama leads to shutting down
early curfews in every town
stocks are crashing, money runs low
we'll start losing jobs and then it'll blow
the drama leads to uncertainty
does the government even know what they're doing?
will the doctors ever find a cure?
or will we forever remain unsure?
the drama leads to the media lying
blowing up stats to make us start crying
because even though most people will recover,
they talk as if death is what comes right after
the drama is what's causing the crisis
the tensions were so high that all it needed was a virus
to get us started, to rile everyone up
and now that we've started, we can't seem to stop.
A/N from the future: Just wanted to pop in and say that I wrote this poem wayyyy back in March 2020 when the situation wasn't that serious in the US (where I live) and before I knew all the details of how bad this pandemic actually was. You can probably tell that this is about me thinking that everyone's being super overdramatic about everything, and that is the reason why. But I also wanted to say that Isha from the future knows and understands the full gravity of the situation and the fact that being "overdramatic" probably actually saved hundreds of lives. So yeah, go ahead and thank all the nurses, doctors, and essential workers in your life, because they're literally keeping the world afloat and preventing humanity from collapsing...
So yeah, props to them!
And that's pretty much it for this author's note (I really didn't know how to end it, sorry).
Stay safe y'all!
