eighteen | halloween

Despite Sirius' and Hazel's protests, Remus refused to allow them to go out and trick or treat later that night.  In retaliation, they forced him to hand over a weeks worth of his chocolate that he stashed in his room.

"You know, I was excited to hear that Sirius finally manned up and asked you out.  It meant no more complaining from either of you, but now, well, now I think I've created two monsters." Remus jokes, closing himself in his room.  

Hazel and Sirius' date went extremely well, leading to a night where neither of them got much sleep.  Remus didn't either, as he kept shouting at them to 'quiet down!'.  It took Hazel so, so long, a couple boyfriends, moving to another country and then back, but she finally got over the boy she never thought she would.  And it lead her to so much happiness.

"Accompany me to Peter's, m'lady?" Sirius says, earning a laugh and nod from Hazel.  

Hazel quickly changed from her bathroom robe to the first slip on dress she could find, then exiting her room to find both Remus and Sirius ready by the door.

"Another wonderful adventure for the Three Musketeers!" Hazel shouts, beginning to run towards the door.  She takes the long way around the couch, jumping once on her trampoline before barging past them and out the door towards Sirius' motorcycle, which had a little side cart for Harry.

Hazel quickly climbed on the actual motorcycle, not wishing to be stuck in the side cart as she was all the other times the three went out and about.

"Hazel, you're delusional if you think Moony can fit in that thing.  C'mon, you know the drill." Sirius says, laughing as Hazel begins to pout and steps into the side cart, placing a helmet that was a size too big on her head.  "You also don't need that helmet."

"Safety first, Pads, safety first."  

They were eventually off, soon arriving to Peter's house, where they found no sign of him.  Finding that quite odd, a worried Sirius suggests giving James, Lily and Harry a visit, thinking he was possibly there.

But he wasn't.  When the three arrived to the Potter's house- or what was left of the Potter's house- all they could make out was Hagrid, crying, while holding Harry.  

"What the hell happened Hagrid.." Hazel begins, not allowing him to finish his sentence before running inside, stopping after only a few steps inside.  

Hazel knew heartbreak, it was like an old friend.  But what she felt in that moment was a million times worse.  She couldn't put into words how she felt in that moment, staring down at the man who she loved so much, her best friend.  

She let out a loud scream, falling to the ground and crying beside James Potter, who lay lifeless on the ground, his wand several feet away from him.  She refused to get too close, not believing this was real.

"Hazel? Haz- Oh Merlin." Remus says, choking up upon seeing his bestfriend of ten years dead on the floor.  Once finally getting Hazel up, they ran upstairs, finding Lily just the same as James- lifeless on the ground.  

Hazel could hardly breathe, her real voice gone, just unintelligible screams and sobs that accompanied the tears streaming down her face.

As she took a moment, wondering who would ever do this to James and Lily, she realized something.  

Sirius was their secret keeper.
