It is time to be strong

If you faint in the day of adversity,
Your strength is small. - Proverbs 24:10 (NKJV)

God wants us to be strong. What does it mean to be strong? Does it mean you go on telling people how strong you are or does it mean having the highest possible understanding of God's word?

The scripture above gives us one reason we need to be strong. We need strength because there is a day of trouble that awaits each of us. Maybe I am being a little pessimistic right?

The bible says, if you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small. Adversity is any difficulty that seems insurmountable. For that trouble to become surmountable? We would need strength. oh, how much we need strength!

They go from strength to strength;
[]Each one appears before God in Zion. - Psalm 84:7 (NKJV)

Each time you appear before God, you receive a dosage of strength. Whether it's in a church that you appeared before God or in your personal prayer times, God strengthens you by virtue of your appearance before His presence. I love the description of what happens to that person that appears before God. He goes from strength to strength. There is no telling how much strength you will receive. You move from one  level of strength to another as you seek God in prayer. As you seek God in the study of His Holy Scriptures.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. - Ephesians 6:10 (NKJV)

I have a few friends that are strong in sports. They are always training. They are always working out. They are always doing something that helps them in mastering their craft better. It might be watching videos of great players in that particular field. It could be improving ball handling in their basketball game. There is so many things these friends of mine do to keep up to par with the sports they follow. I can only imagine the strength we would possess if we went all out in loving God!

The Bible says, "be strong in the Lord." Some of the things we should do to be stronger in God is listening to the word of God. Praying daily. Studying the word of God. Never think you are too extreme. The relationship you have with God is personal. Its between you and God. Never think you are praying too much. Never think you are too spiritual. There's times when we might have been accused of being too spiritual. Whatever that means!

It's very hard to be strong in God. Ask a few gym goers and they will tell you how hard it is to keep fit. It's commitment. It requires discipline. Sometimes it seems like torture or some sort of punishment. However you see it, it yields great results.

And each one killed his man; so the Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them; and Ben-Hadad the king of Syria escaped on a horse with the cavalry. 21 Then the king of Israel went out and attacked the horses and chariots, and killed the Syrians with a great slaughter.

 And the prophet came to the king of Israel and said to him, "Go, strengthen yourself; take note, and see what you should do, for []in the spring of the year the king of Syria will come up against you." - 1 Kings 20:20-22 (NKJV)

This is an interesting story in the bible passage above. I wish I could display the whole passage. What we should notice about this scripture is that there was a battle between two kingdoms. The Kingdom of Syria and that of Israel. As you can read, Syria had been defeated. Perhaps annihilated. How amazing it would have been had the story ended right there. But no, it doesn't!

The bible says, "Go, strengthen yourself."  Why? The Syrian King was going to come back. We should never underestimate our enemy. I realize even after a few years of being born again, I still need to take caution in all I do. I wish I was superman or some super heroic character from the Marvel world. I have weaknesses and I need strength. I assume you have weaknesses too. If you do not, hooray! How awesome you are! For those of us that know we have weaknesses, we need to strengthen ourselves as much as we can.

Father, we depend on you. Free us of all self-sufficiency. We realize we are not strong without you. We hold on to your strength today. We believe in you and in the power of your might! Thank you for loving us. Thank you for strengthening us. We love you Lord. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
