John’s POV

I sit on my bed, eagerly waiting for Sherlock to return. He has been ages; which hopefully is a good sign. The door opens and my roommate walks in without saying a word. He slips off his blazer and takes a seat in his chair opposite Harry and next to me. “Well?” I urge.

“I was right.” He simply states, “My brother does have a thing for Lestrade.” How is that relevant? God he is so oblivious sometimes! He is so bloody irritating!

“I mean about my sister.” I respond with a stern tone to my voice.

“Oh good news!” Sherlock exclaims, “You were wrong. The police were alerted they are just incredibly slow. Your grandparents are worry about you Harry.” He turns to my sister who just nods sadly.

“How does this h-” I am cut off by the door which opens abruptly revealing my angry grandparents the other side. They storm in without saying a word and take hold of my sister’s arm, “Hey!” I shout and they turn to me. “You can’t just take her!” I add. I feel movement next to me and I see Sherlock standing in very close proximity to me. It makes me feel supported. An emotion that I haven’t felt in a long time.

Sherlock’s POV

I rise from my chair and stand closer to John who is now fuming. I obviously have no experience in this situation but standing close to him feels the right thing to do. Like completely a jigsaw puzzle. His sister is crying now as the grandmother clings onto her arm still glaring at John. “Calm down Harry.” I pipe up and Harry nods while trying to stop anymore tears from falling.

“It’s Harriet.” Their grandmother hisses, I look at Harry who has just sighed sadly.

“Nope.” I reply while popping to ‘p’ for effect to annoy the frankly bat like woman in front of me. How this woman is related to John I have no idea. “It is Harry.” I add before turning back to the young girl, “Right Harry?” I question which is responded by her eagerly nodding.

“We are leaving!” The old woman announces as she begins to tug on John sister’s arm forcefully. John and I take a step forward almost subconsciously.

“Wait!” John yells as he rushes up to his sister and kneels down, “Don’t worry Harry. I will visit regularly! I will get a job so I can pay for train tickets and maybe one day – when I am old enough – a car!” He rambles frantically. He is quite cute when he does that. “I am not going to leave you with them.” He snidely causing the grandmother to snap. She swipes her hand, hard, around his face making him fall back.

“Faggots aren’t welcome in my house John Hamish Watson!” She barks. “I hope you two will be very happy together.” She states spitefully before turning on her heels and leaving with Harry and the grandfather in tow. Whatever did she mean? Is John gay? I chuckle to myself which earns a glare from my blond roommate.

“What’s so funny?!” John cries disbelievingly.

“Your middle name is Hamish.” I laugh.
