Chapter 15: The Lake's Treasures
Rosie Deaver was freezing her butt of, being forced to wear a swimming suit in this chilly weather was not her ideal plan.
And her friends were no where in sight, she knew that the 'treasures' were people and that Hermione was picked for Krum.
Which made her believe that Ginny was picked for her, as she hadn't seen the petite Weasley since the day before.
This only increased her nerves, she had nobody to talk to and she had to find a boat to get on.
"Rosie!" Someone shouted her name from a boat and she turned to see Cedric and his friend Kathy.
Kathy Wood, she was Fred's date to the Yule ball.
"Oh hey" she waved awkwardly as she walked over to where they were sat in the boat.
"You can jump in with us" Kathy offered with a smile, Rosie nodded and accepted the offer.
She sat down opposite Cedric and next to Kathy, Cedric was gloomily looking into the water as Kathy paid no attention to it.
"Don't mind him, he's moody because Penelope isn't talking to him and Cho is not here" Kathy explained to the younger year student.
Rosie nodded, she had heard of one of their best friends Penelope: she was known as being a bit mental and often fought with Cedric over petty things.
"So, what are you using for breathing for an hour?" Kathy asked the brunette, trying to keep the conversation to continue.
"Bubble-head charm" Rosie replied, taking a liking towards the positive hufflepuff.
"So is Cedric! Took him weeks to learn it though, it is quite advanced" Kathy rambled on as Rosie shrugged, "didn't you go to the Yule ball with George?"
"Yes, but only because Hermione practically forced me to go, and McGonagal. Otherwise I would have stayed with my cat" Rosie had officially opened up to her as she rambled about how she didn't want to go to the Yule ball.
Kathy's eyes brightened up, "you know, for some reason Fred doesn't like you with George. But, I think you'd be the perfect match. He is after all watching ya with his twin right now on that boat over there"
Rosie looked at where Kathy tilted her head to and spotted two red haired twins keeping an eye on them.
She turned back to Kathy and let out a small giggle, "they are quite silly"
"Very silly" Kathy agreed with the Rosie, and it seemed like a new friendship was made.
They finally pulled up to the main stands and Kathy wished the girl good luck before walking away to meet up with her other friends.
Rosie turned to Cedric and they both shrugged at the girls behaviour before walking over to where the rest of the champions were stood.
McGonagal ran her hands up and down Rosie's arms in an attempt to warm her up before wishing her luck.
Rosie turned around and faced the lake, the champions doing the same.
"Welcome to thesecond task. Last night something wasstolen from each of our champions. A treasure of sorts. These four treasures, one for each champion, now lie on thebottom of the black lake. In order to win each champion need only find their treasure and return to the surface. Simple enough. Except for this, they will have one hour to do so and one hour only. After that they'll be on their own." Dumbledore has spoken over the speakers.
Rosie took in some deep breathes and wavered her eyes over the crowd, when she met eyes with familiar and warm brown eyed he grinned at her and a sudden wave of confidence spread through her.
"You may begin at the start of the cannon." Dumbledore instructed, and then the cannon went off almost immediately.
Rosie broke off the eye contact with George and dived into the lake and pointed her wand at herself, she casted the bubble-head chance and could suddenly see and and breathe.
She began to swim as fast as she could to where she'd expect the 'treasures' to most likely be.
Soon after, she hears muffled screams by a girl and assumes that Fleur has already been caught and disqualified.
And with that, her grip on her wand tightened.
She swam further and began to hear the song by the mer-people.
Come seek us where our voices sound.
We cannot sing above the ground.
An hour long you'll have to look,
To recover what we took.
And then she spotted the 'treasures' her eyes instantly went to Hermione and Ginny.
She had to make sure that everyone was safe, she swam up to the people to spot hardy doing the same as her.
Harry tried to grab Hermione, despite Rosie's protests, and the mermaids surround him and threaten him with their weapons.
"But, he's my friend too!"
"Only one!"They shriek and swim away quickly when they spot a shark swimming towards them and Rosie just watches with beady eyes.
The shark, Krum, bites off hermiones chain and takes her to the surface.
Rosie turned to Harry, who was glancing between Lacy, Ginny and the little girl.
Who was fleur's sister.
She caught Harry's attention and pointed at the chains, they released their treasures before turning to the girl and releasing her.
She pointed upwards and Harry nodded before taking the treasures.
Rosie knee that creatures were supposed to attack hardy, but she had a few spells up her sleeves that she could use.
She checked upwards and saw him reach the surface before hearing a loud bang.
Their one hour was up, and so was her bubble-head charm.
The creatures, as she had predicted, went for hardy bit instead she was in their way and they lay latched onto her instead.
Rosie screamed as she felt the bites they left and struggled to remove her arm and point it upwards.
'Acendio'
She shoots upwards and lands on the stands, where the crowd is cheering and shouting about different champions.
"Rosie!" She heard Ginny squeal and two figures latched onto her and pulled her into a hug.
"I'm so glad you two are safe!" Rosie smiles as Hermione and Ginny held her.
"Towels, more towels!" McGonagl demanded and then snatched the towels and wrapped them around Rosie to warm her up.
"What are these bites?" Hermione had tilted her head as she examined the girls arms and legs.
"Well, I had to make sure Harry got the three of them out safely. As we're not supposed to save anyone else's treasures" she had explained and Hermione's eyes softened before they heard McGongal shouting for a nurse.
