Greetings from Ravencock

They were told Ravenclaw's common room was the most spacious and airy room compared to the other house common rooms. And it was.

The room was circular, the furniture sophisticated and clean. The coloring was mostly a royal blue and brown wood that looked bronze. The walls were a pearly white with gold paint along the edges. There were other Hogwarts students busy stuffing their noses in books or solving jigsaw puzzles.

There was a room off to the side with no door. It was a library with an endless amount of books.

Olive and Chris stood next to each other, too awkward to mingle with the other chosen Ravenclaw students. The others had the same feelings, either sticking with kids from their country or standing alone.

Their Head of House, a tall lanky man with blue round glasses, was muttering something in what they assumed was German. He was pale, probably from spending most of his time inside reading books rather than going outside to enjoy the sun. His messy unkempt brown hair was quite long, it was in dire need of a haircut but instead pulled into a loose ponytail at his neck. He had The international students also noticed the dark bags under his eyes, though they weren't sure if he was lacking sleep or if it was just a natural part of his face.

The man's name was Professor Orion and most likely he was new here at Hogwarts. He looked like he was fresh out of college, spending a good stressful five years at college before being rejected from his dream job and instead of settling down to be a teacher at a magical school.

Professor Orion was the potions teacher, so he had to be somewhat smart if he was in charge of potions and Ravenclaw.

Finally, Professor Orion turned to the kids with a smile, a very very very small shy smile. "Uh, hello!"

No one responded.

He cleared his throat, "A-as you know, I am P-professor Orion, teacher of potions and Head of Ravenclaw. It is an honor to, um, help y-you all on your first day of Hogwarts." Professor Orion attempted a bigger smile, though the kids just stared at him. Orion brushed a wavy strand of his loose hair back, saying, "Um, so I a-assume you would want some information about Ravenclaw tower. Any questions, comments, or concerns?"

The students stayed silent, waiting for someone to have the courage to speak first. Ravenclaws weren't known for their courage, only their brains, and wits. So it was an awkward silence.

Finally, Chris raised his hand. Professor Orion beamed, finally a student wanted to talk. No more weird silence.

"Yes?"

Chris politely said, "Earlier the eagle knocker said a riddle and you answered it. Is it always going to be like that?"

"Why, yes," Professor Orions pushed his glasses back up his straight nose which was sprinkled with freckles, "The, um, the Ravenclaw t-t-tower requires its students to answer um, a riddle that changes every day. If y-you get the answer wrong you will have to w-wait until, um, another student comes around and gets t-the, um, right answer."

The exchange students looked at each other.

Professor Orion, turns out, had a stutter.

The man tugged at the collar of his light blue dress shirt. "A-are there any other questions?"

"Sir," A boy with neatly combed black hair slowly raised his hand, "Are we required to always wear out ties?" He pointed at his blue and grey stripe, not really a fan of the color grey. Grey technically wasn't a "real color", it was an intermediate color between black and white which aren't true colors either.

Professor Orion nodded, "Yes. It shows what house y-you belong in."

"But why? I'm sure we can remember what house we belong to. If anything, it'd be much easier to produce one single color of ties among the students instead of four different ones." The boy pointed out, one hand playing with a gold earring he was wearing. "In fact, what about our uniforms in general? Surely it doesn't fit well for the summer or spring, plus the dreary look of the black robes is a bit much, even if this is a wizarding school."

"Um," Professor Orion frowned, nervously scratching his cheek, "What's your name again?"

"José Oliveira from Brazil, though technically by last name is Brilhantes. Oliveria is my mom's maiden name."

"Well, José," Professor Orion smiled at him, "I'm sure y-you can talk to McGonagall a-about that. You would do well in a-a debate c-club."

José beamed, his brown eyes widening with sparkles, "You have a debate team?"

"Er," Professor Orion scratched his cheek again, "N-no. But if we had a debate c-club I'm sure y-you would love it."

Olive sighed, asking, "Does Hogwarts have any clubs?"

The man shrugged his shoulders, "We have q-quidditch."

The students shared a sigh of disappointment. Every magical school had quidditch, though in America it was called Speedball.

Professor Orion regained his shy smile, summoning a piece of paper from out of nowhere. "Now, I guess it a good t-time to give rooms."

Olive and Chris shared a look of "Oh-fuck". They were going to have to separate now.

The teacher adjusted his glasses, peering at the paper in his hand. "Hm, we'll start with the boys since t-there is exactly five of you."

He started to list off the names, "Harzou Miya, Chander P-Patel, José Oliveira, Adam Medved, and C-Chris Arbora. " He cleared his throat, brushing the same strand of hair back behind his ear, "Um, a-as for the girls. T-There are only two of you, Makoto Nakano and Olive Dru."

Olive looked at the girl who she was going to share a room with. Makoto was shorter than her, probably 5'5" tall. She was from Japan with long black hair that cascaded down her back. The ends of Makoto's hair was dyed blue, something Olive was sure wasn't there before.

Makoto looked back at Olive and gave her a smile. Olive politely gave her a small smile.

Professor Orion sighed, "Okay, I'm going to have t-to report to McGonagall. See you all soon." He left, his dark robes following him.

The exchange students were left to do whatever they wanted. Which they were having trouble deciding. None of them really wanted to read books at the moment, heck, Olive wasn't much of a book reader. She honestly didn't understand why she was sorted into Ravenclaw.

Chris cleared his throat, pushing his glasses. "So, I'm Chris and this is Olive," He pointed a thumb at Olive, "We're the American students."

"I'm Harzou, Makoto and I are from Japan." Harzou was actually pretty tall, probably around Olive's height. He had dark ebony hair that was neatly combed into a side part and pale skin.

They looked at the other boys, the one named José grinned, "I'm José from Brazil." José had neat black hair and gold earrings as mentioned earlier.

"Chander, I'm from India," Chander introduced himself. Chander was darkly tanned with short dark hair.

The last boy, a tall light brunette, quietly said, "I'm Adam... From Russia." His usual pale cheeks reddened as he spoke those four words.

After that, no one knew what to say.

After what felt like an eternity of silence (but it was really just thirty seconds), Adam coughed, muttering he was going to go to the library.

So the Ravenclaw exchange students split up, each one going their own direction. Chris and Olive decided to head to their rooms to get ready for the night. Adam was joined by Makoto in the library. The rest decided to go explore Ravenclaw tower, each one going their own ways.

Ravenclaw was known for their intelligence and clever thinking. But not for their socializing skills.
