A Week, What's New?

A full week. That's how long the school year has been so far.

Hogwarts was, not what any of the newcomers had expected.

They heard Hogwarts was grand, one of the best magical schools in existence. Their professors were powerful, they were people students could only hope to become equal with. They had a celebrity among them!

(Speaking of, Varian had grown quite the attachment to the foreigners. He even told them they were his favorite class.)

There was both new and lost history in the walls of Hogwarts.

The school itself was a historical site. It once held the battleground of the Second Great Wizarding War, granted it was only in Britain and not the actual world itself. Would it be considered great if it only concerned one area?

It was great, no lies there. But no other country seemed to... be interested in such war. Where was America at that time? Probably dealing with its crime rates and racism (not that it's changed much these days).

But of course, Hogwarts was home to many witches, wizards, and mages. It was rich as it was old.

It was really old.

Many of the exchange students, especially the Americrew, Japanese, and Russians, were... surprised, to say the least.

Hogwarts, after all these years, is still writing with quills? Would it be too much to write simply with a pen or pencil? Especially a pen because dear god these young students absolutely hate it when they write a mistake with no way to erase it. There was probably a spell somewhere to undo writing, of course. But that was just too trivial.

Not to mention, the uniforms were quite drab.

At first, the aesthetic of wearing a dark cloak was fascinating. But it grew tiresome after a while. The sleeves were too long, always hanging weirdly and getting in the way. The number of times the exchange students, or any student in general, had accidentally torn or soaked their sleeves was... let's just say many sleeves were stained.

And skirts? Sure, the simple grey soft skirts were cute. But it didn't fit well with those who liked their legs covered. It was exhausting for students who wore skirts to be careful on windy days. Merlin forbid that their skirt flies up with the wind.

And what was up with the dimly lit hallways? It'd be nice to have some sort of actual light in here.

The exchange students even noticed spiderwebs in the corners, hiding away insects deep within the shadows.

The wifi was killer as well. The only places where the wifi was actually very good and speedy were the dormitories, the eating hall, and Professor Gold's classroom.

The library was also quite boring. After a quick trip there, the new students were disheartened to find out it was all just about the magical world. Yes, it made sense seeing they were a school of magic. But, it'd still be nice to have some fun books to read as a hobby.

Instead, it was the only textbook after textbook.

At least the food got a little better. After a few concerns from the exchange students, McGonagall made sure the meals would satisfy all the students.

Now there were vegetarian options, meals that didn't have pork in them, actual steaming fresh rice, and deserts free of gluten and nuts.

The food was pretty much the only thing that had improved since the newcomers had arrived.

Classes were dull, other students tended to either avoid the foreigners or awkwardly befriend them only to fail miserably. Though, that James Potter boy sure did like talking to those sorted into Gryffindor.
