Friends?

Francis sat on her bed, drawing away at her sketchbook. It was a fresh new sketchbook with a black leather cover, there was a sticker of the "surprised Pikachu" meme on it. Francis had plenty of those stickers, of course, no one knew she had them. Even if someone had known they would forget because Francis didn't look like the type to have them.

She had her headphones in, listening to her tunes as her roommates awkwardly were getting ready for bed. Except for Lena, she was in the common room talking to the other Russian kids in Slytherin.

Francis glanced up from her sketchbook, studying the girls she was rooming with.

Naibab was taming her dark hair, her hijab was hung up on her bedpost.

Maria was slipping into a light pink nightgown with lace at the hem.

Francis sighed, going back to her drawing. She was drawing one of her characters for a story. Well, not an official story. It was just a small hobby she liked to do. It also kind of proved how much of a web she was but whatever.

Francis looked at her phone, realizing it was popping up with notifications.

It seemed her friends were chatting away in their group chat...

Francis went on and watched what was happening.

Nothing much, just J shitposting and Olive occasionally asking what the fuck goes on in their head. Sometimes Maggie would pop in with a joke and Chris would go and forth between joining J in their antics or questioning humanity.

Francis just texted a "Wtf" then left, going back to her drawing.

"I liked your bracelets,"

"Hm?" Francis looked up, spotting Maria looking over at her.

Maria shrugged, "The bracelets you were wearing today, I saw them and thought they looked cool."

"Oh, uh, thanks," Francis gave her a strange smile.

Maria sighed, "Okay, this is really weird." She sat on her bed, crossing her long legs, Maria tied her hair into a tight bun.

"Agreed," Naibab went to her bed, tucking her toes under the silk blankets, "I've never done anything like this before."

"Same," Maria said, "I'm pretty sure none of us have." She pursed her lips, fingers impatiently tapping on her knees. Then Maria muttered, "How long until something happens at Hogwarts?"

"Um," Naibab tapped her chin, "Probably a week."

Francis rolled her eyes. Yes, Hogwarts was notorious for their many many MANY strange events such as deaths, magical creatures attacking, students disappearing, deaths, the occasional racism, and let's not forget deaths. Heck, there were rumors of illegal time-traveling from students that attended Hogwarts two years ago.

"You don't talk much, do you?" Maria asked, raising an eyebrow at Francis.

Francis shrugged, not replying.

Maria sighed, then she said, "You have a lot of friends for someone who doesn't talk."

Francis frowned at her, "I do talk."

Maria grinned, "Oh, so she does speak."

Naibab huffed out a breath, "I have to admit though, you and your friends are pretty cool for sitting wherever you want."

Maria agreed, a little quiet though.

Francis frowned even more, "You do know it's just... benches right? No one's stopping you from sitting anywhere."

"True," Naibab nodded, "But you're lucky you already have a group of friends. All the other exchange students don't know each other, I don't even know the kids I came with. That's why we sit where our houses are, it's the only place we know where we belong."

Francis took this in, guessing Naibab had a point.

If Francis didn't know her friends, she'd probably be sitting over at the Slytherin table. Would that mean she would be friends with Slytherins? The thought wasn't terrible, just a little weird to imagine yourself having completely different friends.

"Well, are there twins from Brazil in our house?" Naibab realized, leaning against her bedpost and pulling the covers over her legs.

"Yeah, they're the Sanchez twins," Maria said, picking at her cuticle, "And like you said, I don't know them. But judging by their looks they're probably trouble, like prankster trouble. But they are cute so maybe they won't be so bad."

Naibab hummed, thinking back about the twins, "Oh yeah, one of them has a shaved hair cut, I think it was, uh, Pablo? Or was it Pedro? No, I'm pretty sure that was Pablo." The other two girls didn't know as well. Naibab sighed, "I wonder how someone could just shave part of their head, that's like a brave thing to do. If I ever did that my mother would kill me."

"I have an undercut," Francis said.

Maria and Naibab shot her a look of disbelief. "No way," Maria jumped off her bed and ran to Francis. She squinted, "Show us."

Francis sighed, lifting up her hair.

Francis had an undercut. It was shaved up until about two-three inches above her ears. Her top part was short, only reach along her jawline to make it seem like Francis had a bob cut if she had her hair down.

Maria grinned, "Dang, chain bracelets, choker, and an undercut? You're looking pretty cool, uh, Francis was it?"

"Uh, yeah... Thanks."

"I can do your makeup too if you want, I think you'll look great with a dark lip and a simple cat-eye." Maria smiled, sitting fully on Francis' bed. She spotted the sketchbook on Francis' lap and pointed at it, "Is that a sketchbook? What are you drawing?"

"Um, just... stuff," Francis' neck was heating up, quickly getting embarrassed.

Naibab smiled, "You like to draw?" Francis nodded, closing her sketchbook and putting it away in a drawer. She had a special spell on the drawer she put the sketchbook in that way no one could get into it. Not even an Alohamora could unlock it. "I'm terrible at drawing."

Francis just nodded, having been used to people saying stuff like that when they first find out she draws. It's basically a routine at this point. Someone finds out Francis draws and their response is either:

"I'm terrible at drawing."

"This person is better than you."

"Why are they naked?"

Or the award-winning, "Can you draw me something?"

Maria pouted at Francis, asking the girl, "Have you ever thought about getting piercings?"

"Uh," Francis dragged that word for a good ten seconds. Why was Maria so focused on Francis' looks? "Not really?"

"Oh, that's a little sad, I would've liked to see you in piercings." Maria sighed, getting off Francis' bed and returning to her own. She plopped on her bed, patting the silk covers gently. "Well, I guess this isn't so weird anymore. We got talking for a good ten minutes."

Naibab smiled, "Yeah."

Francis sighed, turning to look blankly at the wall. She was wondering if Dustin and J were having fun in their room with... the twins... Oh fuck.

If what Maria said about the twins being "pranksters" then... oh man, either Dustin and J were going to love the twins or hate their guts.

Francis just hoped there wasn't a murder in the morning.
