DADA was, collectively, everyone's favorite class. Well, it was at least in their top three.
The subject was hard, yes, but exciting. The students actually got to learn and perform magic, magic that pertained to their skill level and potential. DADA wasn't about regurgitating information and spitting it out with the movement of a wand. No, it was more than that.
DADA was fun. It was life. It was an adventure!
And the professor was cool.
Professor Gold was relaxed and laid back, usually letting the kids explore the lesson on their own. He knew that there was no perfect way of using magic. Magic was what whatever the witch, wizard, or mage chose it to be. Either a form of power, respect or something bigger, magic was free.
Today's lesson was simple.
They were practicing shooting each other.
Well, that sounded quite off.
The students were with their assigned partners, they would have to go back and forth shooting each other with any spell they could think of. As long as it was powerful and straightforward, they could use it.
Well, that and as long as it didn't kill the other person.
Meanwhile, their partner would conjure up protection of sorts that was also to be determined on the spot by said person. It was mostly a lesson of improv and creativity. When fighting, one does not have the time to fully think out a plan. You just have to wing it, as many would say.
Right now, the students were actually doing quite well.
Sure, there had been a couple of zaps and bruises, but nothing too horrid.
Francis stood, cracking her knuckles as she had finished blasting an arrow at her partner. They've been going at it for ten minutes so far, and neither and been blown to bits. So that was a good sign.
Her partner, much to her dismay... Was the boy who had caught her when she fell down the stairs.
Yuri was his name.
When Professor Gold had started to give off names, many people were hoping to get someone they would get along with.
Francis wasn't sure who got who, but she knew who her friends were stuck with.
CJ had the honor of being partnered with Emelia. The two had, to no one's surprise, gotten along right away. They were like two sweet little babies eagerly chatting away. It was also easy for them to communicate considering CJ had learned sign language, though there were a few slip-ups due to different dialects.
Dustin was partnered with Pablo, whose twin, Pedro, was partnered with J. Those four proved to be quite... troublesome together. Think of it as a litter of puppies that had just discovered they could run. Yes, it was quite a sight. At least they got along well, often joking and sneaking giggles amongst them.
Annika was partnered with Lena. There was mutual respect between the two. They didn't talk much, but they didn't give each other snarky comments. They were kind, though Annika found out Lena was quite the, um, bitter person. It was sort of like Lena didn't want to be with Annika, but that seemed normal seeing as, well, they're strangers.
With Sam was Ila. Ila was confident and often urged Sam to go bigger, louder, and brighter. Sam was timid and shy.
Olive was paired with Filipp. The two were very quiet, not saying much to each other. Filipp would usually grumble, awkwardly standing still while Olive would stare away in a shy manner.
Maggie found herself with Maria. Maggie was somewhat intimidated by the beauty that was Maria. And Maria was quite frankly, weirded out by the bookworm she was paired with.
