Virgil's POV

I was woken by the sound of my god-awful alarm going off, I rolled over and fumbled around trying to find my phone. I eventually found it and pressed snooze, chuckling lightly at the alarm label: Why do I bother? You're just going to snooze me!

I rolled back over, about to get another eight minutes of sleep before I need to press snooze again. But instead, I was met with a face mere inches from mine. I jumped back, letting out a very manly scream as Thomas began to laugh.

"Christ on a Cracker kid. You scared the bejesus out of me!" I placed a hand over my heart trying to regain my breathing

"Sorry, but school is starting today!"

"God have I taught you nothing? School is bad, school is boring, school interrupts my sleep. Why do you even wanna go back, its 2nd Grade? You're like the only kid I know who actually likes school"

"I am the only kid you know"

"Nuh-uh"

"Ya huh"

"I know your friends and there are lots of kids at work and they don't wanna go back"

"Yeah but you work at Disneyland"

I opened my mouth to continue our debate but was rudely interrupted by my alarm going off again. Thomas had a smug grin on his face knowing he won – we have until my alarm goes off and whoever was the last to talk wins. I turned my alarm off and flopped back into bed, bringing the covers above my head

"Come on!" Thomas shouted as he ripped the covers off me

"Urgh fine." I swung my legs over the side of my bed and stood up stretching, that was a mistake as it left my stomach exposed and Thomas did the unthinkable. He tickled me.

"Ahh stop!" I tried to say between laughs, he then shoved some clothes into my arms and ran down the stairs.

That is one great kid, he takes care of me as much as I take care of him. He's got his caring nature form his mother and sense of humour from his dad.

"Come on Dad!" Thomas called again

Ahh the impatience, that he gets from me. I paused. He just called me 'dad'. I smile to myself slightly, I told him that he doesn't have to do that and I tell him the stories of his real parents but he still calls me dad. It's stupid but I kind of love it.

"I'm coming!" I yelled back, pulling my jeans and hoodie on, I'll shower and get dressed properly once I get back from dropping him off.

I slid down the banister, landing gracefully at the bottom before going into the kitchen to get some coffee. Thomas was already sitting at the table eating a Pop-Tart.

"Is that the last one?"

"No there's more in the cupboard"

"Sweet" I grabbed the box to find it empty, "seriously dude?"

"Oh sorry"

"It's fine, I'll get more on the way back"

I took two sips of my coffee before Thomas started to drag me out of the house.

"Thomathy what is up with you today? There's no rush, we've got loads of time"

"I know but what if there is traffic or the car doesn't start. Then we also have to get our drinks from Starbucks before school like we do every year and what if there is a long queue or—"

"Of course, the anxiety you pick up from me. Breathe, I'll get my keys and we can go okay?"

Thomas just nodded, taking deep breathes. I quickly plant a kiss on his forehead before speed walking over to the table and grabbed my keys and wallet then made my way back over to a calmer Thomas.
