A shorter chapter today/night, also sorry for not updating in a while aha

A week later...

Virgil and Thomas were lying on the floor in the kitchen, bored out of their minds. For once, they were bored of the TV and Virgil didn't have any motivation to work on a commission he was sent – he still had two weeks to finish it – and Thomas didn't have any school work. So there they were, lying on their backs staring up at the kitchen ceiling with music playing through Virgil's phone when he suddenly got an idea. They could go and visit Roman's pack.

He hadn't seen the other since last Sunday when he came for an impromptu visit because Thomas had school and Virgil had work, but it's Saturday now, so they might as well go and meet the rest of the pack.

Before he could talk himself out of it, he told Thomas his plan then they both rushed upstairs to get changed out of their tracky bottoms and Disney hoodies.

Virgil put on a pair of ripped black jeans, a dark purple shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows and the top two buttons were undone. He put on the beanie Joan and Terrance got him a few months ago to thank him for the sleepovers and tied up his Doc Martians. Thomas decided to keep his Disney hoodie on but changed into a pair of jeans and put on his red trainers.

Virgil sent a quick message to Roman saying that they were on their way over – because unlike Roman, he doesn't want to show up somewhere unannounced. Virgil grabbed his backpack and filled it with his wallet, a water bottle, his phone and laptop – in case inspiration strikes. He scooped up his keys and they were on their way.

Roman was at on the couch, his leg bouncing up and down as he chewed on his thumb. Logan was sat on the other side of the couch trying to read but because of Roman's bouncing leg, it was shaking the couch which was distracting and frankly pissing him off.

"Roman please stop with the leg" Logan snapped, "why are you so restless?

Roman ignored his Beta instead jumped up and rushed to the door, "he's here!"

"Who – oh that new wolf. Why do you care so much?"

"Hush LoLo, it's cute," his husband said, walking down the stairs and sitting on his lap

Roman flung the door open to see Thomas sprinting up the path with Virgil following further behind.

"HI ROMAN!" Thomas shouted, still running, and waved at him

"Hey Thomas" Roman chuckled as the other came to a stop next to him, somehow not out of breath

"Hurry up Dad!"

"Bite me." could be heard faintly from Virgil causing both Thomas and Roman to laugh.

Virgil eventually reached them and gave a small smile to Roman, which the other happily returned. Roman showed the two in and led them to the sitting room where Logan and Patton were waiting.

"Virgil, Thomas, this is Logan and Patton"

"Hiya kiddos!"

Virgil was taken back by Patton but Thomas giggled and waved enthusiastically

"Greetings"

"And salutations," Virgil said, causing Roman's face to light up and the reference

The attention was brought back to Patton when he squealed and rushed over to Virgil,

"Oh my gosh, you're so small! I must protect you! You are my child now! Let's go make cookies!" Patton grabbed Virgil's hand and dragged him towards the kitchen, Thomas following behind, refusing to leave Virgil's side.

Virgil looked back at Roman who was stifling a laugh and mouthed 'help me' to which he just shook his head. Turns out Roman didn't need to help as Virgil was forcefully pulled out of Patton's grasp and shoved against a wall.

"DAD!"

"REMUS!"

Virgil recovered from the shock to be met with two piercing green eyes that were glaring down at him. The person pinning him to the wall looked almost identical to Roman, except he had a white streak in his hair and he had a couple of facial piercings, not to mention the green eyes instead of Roman's bright red.

Virgil couldn't help himself, "at least take me to dinner first"

That caused the person pinning him to smirk and laugh loudly

"Remus enough let him go!" Roman tried but he didn't listen or let go fast enough.

Virgil could hear Thomas quietly crying and his instincts took over. His eyes switched to their purple colour and a deep growl shook through his body. Before Remus could react, Virgil used his forearm and pushed Remus' hands to the side, twisting his body at the same time, forcing Remus to let go of his shirt. While Remus was bent down slightly, Virgil elbowed him in the face and kneed him in the gut, before shoving him away. Remus collapsed on the floor and his mate rushed to his side, glaring at Virgil, whose eyes had returned to their normal colour. Thomas wasted no time in sprinting into Virgil's arms. Thomas sobbed into his shoulder, as Virgil ran his fingers through his hair.

"Shh, it's okay. I'm okay. I'm here, I'm alive and I'm not going anywhere"

Thomas lifted his head and Virgil's heart broke at his pain-filled eyes

"P-pr-promise?" Thomas sniffled

"Yeah kid, I promise" Virgil spoke softly as he wiped Thomas' tears away

Everyone else in the room was silent and scared to move. Patton was fighting his Mu/Peacekeeper instincts and Roman was fighting against going and comforting Virgil and Thomas. Remus was the one to break the silence,

"Woah. For a short-arse, you're fucking strong"

Virgil breathed out a laugh, still hugging Thomas tightly, "sorry about that, my instincts took over when I heard Thomas cry"

"Nah it's cool. We should spar properly at some point. It'll be good to have some actual competition"

"You're on, never fought a Zeta before. Hopefully, you'll put up a better fight next time"

Remus laughed loudly, "oh so that's how it's going to be? Wait, how did you know I was a Zeta?"

"My – um – my mate was an Eta and my father was a Zeta. So I recognised you from that, also I'm an Epsilon"

Everyone in the room took immediate notice of the use of the past tense and subconsciously stood closer to their mate. It also clicked as to why Roman liked Virgil, they had shared experiences.

The awkward silence was interrupted when Virgil jumped to his feet and spun to face the front door. He caught the scent of something that almost brought tears to his eyes. If not for the pure shock and confusion he felt, he probably would've started crying. Thomas who had now stopped crying was also staring at the door in confusion.

"Dad...that smells like..."

"I know" Virgil whispered

They could smell Remy's scent mixed with coffee, but it was his mate's scent that stood out to them. It smelt like home, their old pack, but not quite. It was so familiar to both of them, especially Virgil. It smelt like Jasper...but slightly different. Like someone took him and his scent and added something to it.

The door opened and...

"Virgil?" he gasped, his hands going to cover his mouth as tears began to form.
