Chapter 9

It's Monday morning and I wake up pretty easily. The adrenaline from last evening's conversation kept me awake for almost the entire night.

I get ready for this day, but I actually, for the first time, don't care about my father being an asshole or the chores I have to do. The only thing on my mind is tonight's talk with Dylan.

The day goes by and it's already 6PM. I've finished all my tasks and Dylan and I head towards my room.
"Um... Come in." This is awkward.
"Thanks."
We sit on my grey bed. Silence fills the room.
"Whenever you're ready, Amy." He says.
"I'm ready." I really am.

"Okay, where do I even begin..?"
"Let's start with how you discovered your uh.. issues."
"Well, there wasn't a certain day when I realized it. I just started to notice it sometimes, you know? The way I reacted to things was too.. human. I suddenly realized that I have feelings. I was sad, I was angry, I was hurt..."
"Who hurt you...?" He hesitates to ask.
"Who do you think?" I raise an eyebrow.
"Oh shit. Sorry. Please continue."
"It's okay." I chuckle. "Anyway, I figured it's better if I just pretend to be perfect, and meanwhile I'd..."
"You'd what?"
"Nevermind. It's stupid."
"I don't know what it is, but I'm sure it's not stupid."
"I'm not sure I should tell you..."

My guard is obviously still up. I really don't know if I can share my plan with Dylan. Wait. Dylan is from the outside, right? So it means he knows where the exit is, right?!

"Dylan, I need to ask you something and I need you to be honest with me."
"Sure, what is it?"
"A-are you from the outside?" I'm a little bit scared of the answer.
"The outside? What do you mea- oh! That outside. Yeah, I'm from New York City."
Wow. New York City...

"Actually, one of my biggest dreams is to live in NYC. I've always dreamed of going to the highest floor in the One World Trade Center. It probably feels like you're the queen of the world! You can see everyone and everything from up there, it's incredible, right?"
"Well, I've never been there, so I wouldn't know."
"Really? How come?"
"That's a story for another day. But it's one of my dreams too."

We keep on talking about random things and I even got to know Dylan a bit better. He lives with his mother and little sister, and it sounds like they mean a lot to him. I'm kinda jealous, I've never had a real family. His favorite color is blue, his favorite type of music is Pop (just like mine), his favorite animals are lions and horses, because they are strong and they rule all the other animals. I agree with that, but I prefer butterflies or something less.. rough.

I haven't noticed how fast time flew by and it was already midnight.
"I guess we should go to sleep now."
"You should. I don't need to."
"Haha right. I totally forgot that you're a robot for a second there."
Right. A robot. That's all I am, and all I'm ever going to be.

"I had a really good time tonight, Dylan."
"Me too. We should do it again sometime."
"How about tomorrow?" The words slip my mouth before I can even think.
"Sounds good. Goodnight Amy."
"Goodnight Dyl."
"Dyl. I like it." He chuckles and leaves the room.
