Adelaide's POV

I was getting my uniform ready for the next day at school when my younger brother burst into my room, his twin and my little sister trailing after him.

“What do you guys want now?!” I spoke with annoyance.

“Mom and Dad want you to go downstairs to the dining room, they want to talk to you.” My 7 year old sister, Acacia told me, her blue eyes wide.

“Oh, okay A, can you go tell them I’ll be down in a minute?” I asked her softly.

“I’ll go tell them!!” My brother, Aiden screamed and then ran down the stairs.

“No, Aiden! You told them last time!” Acacia screamed back, racing after him.

Sighing, I closed my door and changed into some yoga pants and a white t-shirt with my fuzzy blue socks on my feet.

Oh wait...I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Adelaide Branson and I’m 16 years old. I have dark brown hair and bright blue eyes. I’m 5’5” and my hair reaches the middle of my back. I have younger twin siblings, Aiden and Acacia, Aiden being older by 1 minute and an older brother named Axel. He’s only a year older than me and is a senior at Ridgemont High School. My family and I live in Denver, Colorado, but my parents are both from Boulder. We moved here when my mom was pregnant with me. Both of my parents are CEO’s of Branson’s Electronics, which is the top notch technology company and has been for the past 18 years. To say my family and I were rich is an understatement. We have a huge mansion with 12 bedrooms, 12 1/2 bathrooms, and our house is above the city, but still in city limits. The view we have here is great. Don’t think that I plan on living off my parents money because that’s not true at all. I work at a Starbucks about 20 minutes from my house and after I graduate high school, I want to go on to college and eventually become a lawyer. I hate it when people think that just because my parents are rich, that I’m not going to go to school and make a living for myself. I’m an independent person by nature, and I hate it when I have to depend on someone else.

Walking down our huge spiral staircase, I can faintly hear whispering coming from the dining room. I’m assuming its my parents talking to each other before I get down there. The second I walk into the room, my parents stop whispering and my mom turns to look at me with a wary expression on her face, my dad on the other hand, looks like he’s all business. He’s a master of the the poker face and that’s the exact same look I’m getting right now.

People say I look a lot like my mom, with my long legs, toned body, and bright blue eyes. My mom’s blonde but my dad has really dark brown hair, almost black. I get my hair color from him and also my skin color. My mom is naturally tan but my dad is pale, but in the summer we all get really tan, which is nice because I hate sunburns.

“Come sit down Addie,” my dad tells me in a gentle, but firm tone.

I go to sit in one of our many chairs at the table. My dad is sitting at the head of the table, as usual, and my mom is on his right. I go and sit on his left and patiently wait for them to tell me what’s going on.

“So how’s school Addie?” My mom starts the conversation with the worst question possible.

“Mom, I know you have something important to tell me, so please just say it.” I say exasperatedly.

My parents share a look, and then my dad says the one thing that made me feel like the earth had fallen from under me, “You’re transferring to Ridgemont.”

“What?! Why am I transferring from Bayside?! All of my friends are there, I have cheerleading and all my friends!” I practically scream at them.

“Honey, calm down and let your father explain,” my mom says softly.

“You’re transferring because now that you’re going to be in college in two years, you need to start thinking about what you want to do in school and then afterwards,” my dad informs me.

“Dad, you know I know what I wanna do. I want to be a lawyer! I want to go to Harvard or Yale in two years!” I exclaimed.

“I know sweetheart, but your mother and I feel like you’re not getting the education you need to get into Harvard or Yale. Ridgemont has a department that’s specialized for law school and getting your undergrad degree,” my dad tells me, with my mom looking at me with a sad expression on her face.

“I know you don’t want to change schools, but you’ll still be able to see your friends from Bayside, and besides, Axel is already at Ridgemont. It’s only the beginning of the school year, so it won’t be that big of a deal to transfer. I know you have cheerleading, but they have cheerleading at Ridgemont too,” my mom explains to me.

“I understand where you guys are coming from, and I’m not mad, I just wish you would have told me this earlier,” I tell them.

“We know baby, we should have told you earlier, and we’re sorry for that. It’s only Sunday night and you don’t start until Thursday, so why don’t you go and get ready for bed, and then tomorrow you can drive to Bayside and get all of your stuff from your locker and tell your friends,” my mom suggested to me.

“Yeah, okay, I’ll go to bed now. Goodnight guys love you,” I say as I’m walking up the stairs in a daze. I hear a “Goodnight, love you too!” from my parents downstairs, but I don’t really hear them.

As I walk into my room, I look at my uniform that’s sitting on my desk chair, and I sigh sadly. I love Bayside, I love cheering for them and I love the teachers. But my parents are right, if I want to get into Harvard and Yale after I graduate, I need to have a really good resume and do something that sets me apart from everyone else.

I try to convince myself that this is going to be a good thing as I fall asleep, and I’m hoping that this empty feeling in my heart goes away soon.

I guess I’m going to be a Ridgemont Panther starting Thursday.
