Mother's howling turned into restless small cries. The captives were now petting and making them as comfortable as possible. Though, Favian could only stare at his pup's eyes and give him high fives. The pup did not allow him to touch him otherwise.
The door slammed open. Everybody got shit scared. A guard stood at the threshold. He looked around. And slammed the heavy door again. The dogs started barking again at the door. Within a few moments the door opened again and their barking stopped. The guards had brought food. Both for the dog and the prisoners.
"Feed and clean the dogs" ordered the guard.
The pups started barking as soon as they saw the food. They doubled down on the food as soon as the guard kept it inside their cell. But, the mother just shrugged at the food offered to her.
The guards gave them a pot full of water, soap, and towel. It was time for a bath! And dear lord those pups hated bathing. Not a single pup was coming close to the prisoners. They were running and jumping and the hopeless hungry prisoners running behind them to catch them. Favian threw a bit of water on the pup which the pup effortlessly dodged and the water spilled. And the ever so careful Favian slipped on it and landed on his back while tossing the pot in the air. Well, it drenched Ethan who was delighting himself at the sight of Favian's successes. Ethan with a quick hand threw some water at Favian's pup, who was enjoying the sight of Ethan.
Finally, some or the other way all the pups got a good bath along with their drenched captive prisoners. They then had another round of food. Where the pups ate most of it leaving the prisoners hungry. Slowly everything started to quieten down. There was a cold breeze blowing through the window. With already drenched clothes and wet walls, the jail started becoming chilly.
It started feeling so quiet that everyone was wide awake cautious and alert. The pups with the help of the body heat of the captives they started falling asleep. Their mother was still wide awake but calm now.
It slowly became eerily quiet. Darkness settling in.
