A gunshot. A scream echoed through the darkness of the lit room. Favian killed his fourth pet. A drop of tear from his eyes and he would be failed. He controlled. A pug of eight months was lying in a pool of splattered blood on the floor in front of him. He was being taught the meaning of getting too close to something or someone.

"Great job. You are now ready for your first mission Favian." Said an automated voice from inside the room.

Favian was one of the many humans who was born into the military. Their parents were chosen based on their strengths and weaknesses. The military could thus, produce a human with specific capabilities as required by the military. The person's face was masked and their voices changed so they would never know whom they were having a child with. Nor they would know who their child is. All humans here were raised devoid of parents. They were fed as mechanically as possible to kill all the humaneness and emotions inside them. Growing up they were under rigorous observation like prisoners in a jail.

None of them were allowed to talk to one another. They could only talk to their seniors or juniors. Their rooms were shifted frequently. They had a single grey uniform with badges to indicate rank and contingent. There was CCTV everywhere giving them absolutely no privacy. Diet, sleep, and training was closely monitored. In mess they had individual cubicle with a screen where videos will be running catered to the individual based on their stimulus and intelligence.

But, one video was common which was shown. It was about life outside and they should be obliged to them for giving them this platform where they are nurtured to be the best of themselves. They would soon be going to exciting missions that they are being prepared from when they are born. And go higher up the ranks. Be celebrated warriors like the veterans. But, the bottom line is, they were the property of the state. But, they never would know who ruled it and would lay their lives for them.
