"Sis, let's go or we're going to be late.""Hol' up one sec..." I reply as I hastily bring out my phone. "This feels caption-worthy."
"Ooh, I see. Send me the shot later."
I tried different positions and settings but it was extremely difficult to find a satisfying shot. It's probably because I'm in a dark alley but still... "I swear City J has the worst lighting."
"Sis, we need to go now. They're coming."
"Right right..." In the end I just took a lot of pics. I'll just check later to see if I found a good one. We will be later if I stay for the perfect shot any longer. Besides, I can already hear sirens from a distance.
We were about to leave when our model grabbed my brother's foot. It seems like he still wants to play.
"You... will... pay..." The man groaned.
"That's what they all say." Sighed my brother as he kicked him to sleep.
As we continued our commute, I scrolled through the thousands of pictures I took and found a good looking one. Now, I just need one last thing.
"Bro, what's a good caption for this?" I showed him the pick I chose.
"Why not just ask your followers?"
"So, 'caption this' it is." I posted it on Instagram with a "caption this" tag.
Far away behind us, we could hear sirens wailing. I can imagine a police car rolling in the area. They come out and one of them explores the alley and discover a pile of bodies sprawled on the floor, groaning and cursing for something that they brought on themselves.
So, we were basically just walking when we saw a bunch of dudes ganging on a guy who was just minding his own business. We weren't really planning on helping him. If we mess with them, it's likely they're going to hit back.
Interactions like these are normal in these parts of town. Normal people owing the rich people things that they can't pay. Rich people pestering normal people to pay when pay day is not today. All the normal stuff you would see in these parts of City J.
"We didn't have to help him you know." Even though he was raring to jump in the most.
"But, the poor guy looked cute."
He sighed, "Sis-,"
"Bro chill, they're probably not important enough for any big boss to give a damn."
Good thing they were just normal thugs. It didn't look like they were part of any big gang in the area. If they were, then that's when were screwed.
I looked at my brother to see if he agrees with me. It looked like he did not care at what I assumed to be his concern at all. In fact it seems his concern was on his phone.
"Yeah I know but it's already 7:45." He said as he showed me his phone.
"What!"
"And according to the website, the opening ceremony starts at 8:15 but that we should be at school by 8, before they close the gates."
"Bro, we've got to hurry. Weren't you supposed to know where the place is? How'd we even get here?"
"Hey! The map said we had to pass through to here. If we just keep going, we were probably going to get there in time."
"Lead the way then!"
I don't normally walk to school with my brother. Usually, during this time, I'd still be at home getting ready. My brother usually leaves early for club practice so we don't get the chance to walk together. Not to mention, I don't walk to school. I go by bus since I'm terrible with maps and directions. Because of that, I have to rely on my brother for directions.
It's a weird thing though. I know my left and right but I just don't have the sense of distance to know how far or how close I am to places. And when I read a map, I just don't get how I can place it in my perspective. Despite that, I feel like I'd be better at flying.
I mean, what was Dad thinking when he said we transferring. I really loved SG High. They don't close gates at eight. They won't blame you if you're late as long as you are in time for homeroom. Heck, opening ceremonies don't exist there.
Suddenly transferring to Morales – even just the name you can tell that it's going to be one of those, "Don't wear miniskirts to school" kind of school. I'll bet twenty of my Snapchat followers that as soon as we get there someone WILL make a comment on my red highlights and my brother's delinquent attire.
Spoiler: I owe you twenty Snapchat followers.
We arrived a lot quicker than I thought. By the time we got there, the gate was half-way closed. From the looks of it, we weren't the only one who were five minutes late. There were a few student lining up probably to get checked. While we waited for our turn, the announcement to head to the gym had played.
When it was our turn, he just asked for our ID's.
"So, Nina Gintaka? And this is your younger brother, Cloud Gintaka?"
Did I forget to mention that he was my younger brother?
"Just quickly head to the gym. You can head to your classes later. It's just at the back."
So he says but damn this school is big. Just walking around, this feels like a maze. Good thing the signs were pretty straightforward.
Creepy guy stares and flirty girl looks aside, if you keep going straight you come across the courtyard. There was crowd gathered there; seems a commotion was going on. But, since we were already late, we didn't stop to check.
"Seems like a fight..."
I sigh, "Cloud, can we make a deal?"
"Huh? Yeah sure, whatsup..."
"Let's never pick fights with anyone ever again." As impossible as it is to ask him to resist his impulses, if we meet up with the wrong people again, I don't think we will be getting
"No promises, Sis. I have a feeling that we will be fighting more than ever in this school." As much as I'd like to tell him off, walking and talking takes too much energy.
"Ugh, just don't get into too much trouble."
If I look back, I'm kind of a hypocrite for saying that.
