A/N: Just a warning in this chapter there is some violence and stuff.
*Back to Peter's POV*
Peter creeped down the alleyway between two apartment buildings, looking carefully for anything that looked out of place. He reached the end of the alley and crouched on the side of a wall, surveying the scene below. A man was standing next to a door that was marked as accessible to authorised personnel only. He was dressed all in black and a balaclava covered his face, he had a back pack and what looked like a gun in his hands. Peter sighed, why did bad guys have to make it so obvious that they were bad guys? They could at least try harder to look like they weren't doing anything wrong. He waited for the right moment then leapt down from the wall.
"Self yeeeeeeettttttt!!!!" he screamed on the way down.
He landed on the man's back. The guy shouted in surprise and waved his arms around, trying to get Peter of him. Instead, Peter shifted his weight and aimed a punch at his head. The criminal rocked backwards and he tried to grab the man's arm before he could reach for his gun. Too late, he already had it in his hand. Peter swore as he was flung against the wall, his head cracking against the bricks. Stars sparked across his vision and he felt momentarily dazed. He looked up and saw the man pointing the gun at him. Peter put his hands up.
"Hey, come on dude, you don't want to do that."
The man sneered at him, "Why not kid?"
"Cause it's not very nice."
"I'm not very nice."
Peter slowly moved his hands, trying not to alert the man to what he was doing. Finally he searching hands found what he was looking for. He hit the emergency call button on his phone and it was answered immediately by Tony.
"Peter?! What's wrong? This better not be a prank like last time-"
Before the criminal caught on to what was happening, Peter choked out a response. "Dad, there's a guy with a gun and-"
Tony's voice sounded strange through the phone, almost hysterical, "Where are you?"
The man, finally realising that the boy he was pointing a gun at was coming up with a way to escape stepped forward and yanked the phone out of Peter's hand. He threw it against the wall and the screen shattered. Peter ducked and covered his head to avoid the spray of glass shards.
"Don't try anything with me kid." He cocked the gun and rested his finger on the trigger. "I should kill you now, you make work for people like me a hell of a lot harder." The man took aim and stepped closer, "Any last words?"
Just as he said that, a boy came running down the alley and knocked over the man, causing the gun to swing wildly. Peter tried to get out of the way but as soon as he heard the gun fire, he knew it was too late. Time seemed to slow as he watched the bullet fly through the air, his limbs felt heavy and he felt as blinding pain went through his shoulder. As Peter slumped against the wall, he watched the man fall to the ground with a punch to the face from the boy who had probably just saved Peter's life. He saw the boy run over and kneel beside him. Was that? No. It couldn't be...
A familiar voice pierced through his hazy mind, "Parker! Are you okay?"
Peter felt the dark spots at the edge of his vision closing in, he looked down at the bullet wound in his shoulder which was sending spikes of pain through his body and dripping blood down his spider-suit, oof that's going to be hard to wash out.
"Peter! I'm going to call an ambulance, just- " The boy's voice faded away as Peter felt his eyes close and he floated away into a numbing darkness.
* * *
Peter awoke to a beeping sound and slowly opened his eyes, wincing at the bright light that shone into them. He had to open and close his eyes several times to adjust but then he looked around the room he was in. He was lying down in a hospital bed, the floor, ceiling and walls of the ward were white. To his left, he saw a heap of bouquets of colourful flowers which seemed to have wilted slightly. There were also a lot of 'get well soon' cards with his name on and he recognised Ned's handwriting on a tag attached to a giant lego set, he was definitely looking forward to building that with his friend when he got out of here.
His limbs felt numb and he looked down at the bandages covering his shoulder where the bullet had gone in. It didn't hurt now but that was probably because he was so high on pain medication. He heard the door open and looked up to see Tony walk in and quickly close the door on the rest of the team who were trying to barge their way inside. He picked up some of their conversation on the other side of the wall.
"Why won't he let us inside?"
"I want to see Peter too!"
"Stark says that the Man of Spiders needs peace and quiet!" Thor's booming voice made it seem like the god was shouting in his ear.
"Sssssssshhhhhhh you big oaf! You're going to wake up the child!"
Peter had to stifle a laugh at the argument his family was having, he was glad they were here. he then looked to Tony who smiled at him and came over to sit on the edge of his bed, "Hey kid, how are you doing?"
"I'm actually pretty good for someone who's just been shot."
Concern filled Tony's gaze as he spoke to Peter in a more serious tone, "I was so worried- I- I- I thought that you might... not make it and I don't know what I would do if that happened-"
"It's okay Dad, I'm fine." Peter cut him off as he leaned forward and gave him a hug. "One thing I do want to know is who saved me in that alley and called the ambulance?" He couldn't remember much of what had happened but he did recall that a boy had attacked the man about to kill him. He just couldn't remember who it was.
At that part Tony chuckled, "Well, he's outside the door now. He's been here the whole time and has been really worried about you. I'll bring him in now." He stood up again and walked out. Peter only had to wait in anticipation for a couple of seconds before he saw Flash step inside the room. The boy was shuffling his feet nervously and didn't make eye contact with Peter. When he did speak it wasn't what Peter was expecting.
"I- I'm so sorry for being such a bully to you at school. I shouldn't have done that and I'm really really sorry. I just was so jealous of you, like, you had the internship, teachers liked you, you always got good grades, you had nice parents who actually cared about you-" Flash cut himself off and took a breath, Peter was surprised when he saw tears in the boy's eyes. "I guess what I want to say is that can we try again? I regret everything I've put you through and I'm so so so sorry for hurting you." His voice became quieter, "I understand if you don't want to, I've been a terrible, horrible person and I don't deserve it at all-"
Peter sat up and interrupted him, "It's okay. I forgive you, sort of. You were still an a**hole." From the other side of the wall they heard Steve shout 'language!'.
Flash laughed awkwardly and rubbed the back of his neck, "Yeah I was. But are you sure it's okay?"
"Yeah, it might take me a while to you know think of you as something other than a bully but I wouldn't mind starting again. Also I owe you one for saving my life. Thanks for that by the way." He stretched his hand out, offering it to him, "Work in progress friends?"
Flash hesitated then put his hand in Peter's and shook it, "Work in progress friends."
