MARY •

Like I said, class today starts at seven and I didn't exactly do a good job of keeping track of time. I woke up twenty minutes before school, searching for my folders. I had no idea where they were and I wasn't even dressed!

My legs are aching and there are probably large dark circles around my eyes. I peered inside my closet, picking up the first thing I could see. Putting on my clothes, I rushed to the bathroom. Brushing my teeth speedily. The time delaying once again, my makeup bag resisted to open, I ripped it open out of frustration.

My oh so innocent self will be viewed as the girl who is always late. My mother explained that if my GPA is as good as her 'standards', she''ll let me transfer into any college of my decision. I still don't know which one to go to yet, but any other college would be better than what mother is planning for me.

During her talk about the GPA, she spoke of how she was considering me going to Hamilton College. But I highly disagree, they're way too unorganised, even Brent is more organised than them. The school barely teaches what we are in need to learn, and they are just by far close to getting me a successful job.

I know my mother loves me just as much as Ann, Luca, and Nina but she is very determined in getting me into Hamilton. Why? Well, she said that dad graduated there. I just can't though, the school looks dark, evil, and definitely not for a girl like me.

I was sure Luca would take the honour, nah just kidding! He's not that devilish.

Or is he?

Snapping me out of my thoughts, I heard a faint knock on the bathroom door.

"Mary, you're taking ages! Can I at least brush my teeth?" I recognised the muffled voice behind the door, Nina was grunting and with my ears I could catch the little stomps of her feet joined by more knocking.

Nina and I share the bathroom and have our rooms in the same corridor. I, being the older one, get the room closer to the bathroom while she gets the room closer to the window. But don't worry, she never sees me going over to Ace's. In comparison, it's a corridor lead to the window where on the left of the corridor are our doors leading to our rooms.

Her door is usually locked so I don't suppose she would be able to suspect anything related to the whole 'going to Ace's house' thing. She, in fact, never makes noise from inside her room, she's like a muted TV. Moving but muted. Sometimes I wonder what she does in there, the only time she will come out is if she's hungry, has to go to school or needs to use the bathroom.

"You can come in! I'm just putting on my makeup!" I shouted over my shoulder loud enough so that she could hear.

The door slowly creaked open, the noise of Nina's legs shuffling towards me. Finishing up the last touch of my light makeup, I spotted Nina using my eyeliner.

"Nina! You're too young to be putting on makeup." I held my hand out, gesturing her to give the stick back. I gained one of her eye rolls as she dropped the stick onto my hand.

"I'm fifteen. I'm not a baby... And don't think I don't notice you sneaking out each night to go over to that boy's house to do god knows what." My mouth gaping wide open at Nina's words, my eye twitched.

I really did not want to tolerate with how mad my Mom would be if she found out I sneak out each night into a boy's house. I mean how disturbing does that sound?

But how?! She hardly ever comes out of her room! This is not possible... "B-but how? When?" I stuttered, my hand waving around as the crinkles on my forehead became more visible.

"Well you see... You know these things called eyes. Yeah, I have them..." She answered, her forefinger pointing at the edge of her eye.

It was my turn to roll my eyes, I guess I underestimated her but still. "Please can you not tell Mom, Luca or Ann?" I pleaded, my hands clasping together.

She raised her hand and massaged her chin, "Hmmm... I guess I won't." She shrugged, sending me the sweet smiled I adored.

I love how she lets things go so quickly, it's a way of how she never gets into a fight at school. I say at school because it goes differently here with Luca, Ann, and I in the house.

I grinned from ear to ear. Suddenly Nina gasped, unravelling the puzzle of what my next action was. I launched onto her, gripping her tiny thin waist tightly. She squealed but giggled, "Thank you Nina!" I felt her abrupt nod which made me smile from delight.

"Okay, so can I brush my teeth now?" She interrupted, and I released her.

I stepped out of her way, zipping up my makeup bag as I walked out passed the door that had barbie stickers on it. Nina was very young when we moved here, to distract you, i'm going to say 'try and think about how I had to deal with the crying every night.'

It was so annoying and utterly disturbing, it seemed as if crying is an action to which the destiny is to deny the hopes of one getting their recommended hibernation.

I peered through my black thick framed glasses I just recently put on. There is about ten minutes left to get ready, better hurry. After a minute or so, I finally found my folders. It was hidden beneath a pile of textbooks, I have absolutely no idea why. Shoving them all into my already overloaded bag, I pulled on the random shoes at the door. My bag brought my posture down, god it was heavy. I forced myself into the kitchen where my mother.
