"You okay?"

I nodded, realising it wasn't the time to release my croaky voice.

We walked to the old wrecked fountain, sitting at the edge on the stone. I could hear birds chirping and crickets singing into the wind. "So..." I started, fumbling with my thumbs.

"I just wanted to tell you that- that you can't date Ace." He spoke sternly.

"What do you mean I can't date Ace? Why not?" I stared at him with a frown. He is not going to tell me that I can't date someone I like.

"He's a player, Mary. You can't trust him, he's not right for you."

"You're the player here! You can't even stick with a girl for a day!" I seethed through my clenched jaw, jabbing my forefinger on his chest.

"Watch your words. You think you know everything when you don't! You don't know anything so don't you dare think I am not trying to help when I am! All you are is just a love-struck puppy, an idiot who's chasing after someone who will never like someone like you!" He death glared at me, my eyes watching his fists in focus.

To be honest, yes, those words did sting. Actually they didn't just sting, they stabbed continuously with every syllable that escaped his lips. Word after word, throw after throw. The wetness at the corner of my eye threatened to fall. Just as I heard his last sentence, I broke down.

Me being the sensitive person I am, I felt the warm constant salty tears roll down my cheek. I stood up, slowly making my way farther away from Brent, wishing he wouldn't ever talk to me ever again. How dare he think he can control me, think that i'm just some toy to Ace.

Ace likes me.

Startling me, I felt an electric shock on my arm where Brent held onto me. "Don't. Just leave me alone." I ripped my body out of his grasp.

"No, I won't leave you alone."

"Why? What do you want from me?" I spat, my blood boiling.

"I'm sorry, Mary. Please forgive me." Brent pleaded, touching my moist cheek.

"Get your hands off of me!" I shoved him and then continued, "You think sorry is going to fix everything? Just because you're so popular? Don't you ever talk to me again!" And with that, I ran.

"Right, from the top! And a one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight." Our first dance lesson consisted of lame, grandpa moves. It really started to bug me, how can a lesson be this boring?!

"Hey, Ella? Can we please take over or something? This women is literally burning my skull with her blandness!" I exclaimed, exasperated when Ella giggled.

"Jeez, Mary. Cut her some slack, she's an oldie!" She whispered, still failing to hide her chuckles.

I pouted, dropping on to my knees for her to help me. "Oh but please, there's no way I- we're going to survive!" I pleaded over dramatically.

"Miller, back on your feet!" Mrs. Boring instructed. I smiled sarcastically before standing up to continue my begging.

Ella smirked sheepishly, obviously thinking of an idea. I grinned widely when I noticed her nod in agreement, "Okay then."

"So here's the plan, we're gonna mess with the music. Change it to some hip hop when she isn't looking at us, but before that, you will have to distract her." She suggested. I nodded eagerly in return, just hoping that this undying pain would go away.

"One... Two... Three... Now!" I whispered, then started limping my way dramatically to the dance teacher.

"Sorry miss, I think I dislocated my knee." I let a few fake tears slide down my cheek to convince her to bring me to the nurse's office. "Can you take me to the nurse please?" I looked up at her wrinkly face staring down at me, there was only a small hint of worry but I knew I had won.

"Is it serious?"

Are you kidding me? When someone says they dislocated their knee, YOU DON'T ASK THEM IF IT'S SERIOUS!

"It really hurts and I think the bone has cracked."

"Oh my goodness, okay. Come, come." She held my arm to support me as we headed for the nurse.

I chuckled while I watched Mary pretend to be hurt, it was actually really funny since she had a few tears running down her face. A lot of other students were very confused, I think it was the first time they've ever noticed her even. But it was just about to get better.

After Mary and the teacher disappeared, I figured it was time to blast the speakers with some hip hop music so I crawled to the stereos and searched for a CD.

"My heart's a stereo, it beats for you so listen close. Hear my thoughts in every note, oh."

When Stereo Hearts blared through the speakers, I did a mini happy dance to celebrate success. Students whipped their head at the noise with bored faces, I snickered then jumped out, beginning to dance some real moves.

I did learn how to dance when I was a child, ballet included. It was harsh, a very strict subject. Always had to point your toes and arch, tense or not tense, blah blah blah. My parents had always been in charge of my life, controlling what to do, what not to do, who to hang out with and so on. So then I decided to take a break, I visited one of my friends who taught me how to dance hip hop and i've been dancing during tough moments.

"What do you think you are doing, young lady!?" A voice screeched in my ear dragging my attention back to reality, I realised it was the teacher.

"Dancing." I replied innocently.

"I will let you go this time but if this happens again..." Her eyes finished the last words then dismissed me out the door.

I mocked her voice inside my head. Y'know.. Girls just wanna have fun.
