Taylor has a day off today so she decided to take Carter to the park. She watched closely from the bench as Carter played happily.

She watched as he got ready to go down a slide. She took her eyes off of him for only a split second, but that's all it took. Her heart stilled and panic washed over her when she heard a thud and the sound of Carter crying and screaming following.

She saw him laying on the ground on his stomach, his hand holding his leg. She ran over to him faster than she's ever ran before. "Carter! What happened? You okay buddy?" She helped him sit up and tried to put her hand on his leg but he refused to let her touch it.

"It hurts." He sobbed as Taylor put her hands on his cheeks. The tears were falling nonstop. She could tell that his leg was starting to swell and Taylor knew something was really wrong. "Okay, it's okay. Just hold onto me. I'm gonna take you to the hospital, we're gonna make you feel so much better soon." She kissed the top of his head and carefully picked him up, rushing to the car and buckling him in before getting in the driver's seat and racing to the hospital.

He cried the whole way there and each of his cries broke Taylor's heart. She pulled into a parking spot and carried him inside the hospital, running to the front desk and panicking about needing help right away.

They put Carter on a bed and he refused to let go of Taylor's hand. Once they were in the room she brushed some of his hair back from his forehead and tried to calm him down the best she could. "Want mommy" he mumbled, and Taylor's eyes went wide. She'd been so worried about Carter and getting him to the hospital as quickly as possible that she didn't even call you.

"Okay honey, I'm gonna call her right now." Taylor kissed his forehead and walked over to the other part of the room - where she was able to see him still but he couldn't hear exactly what was being said. You picked up on the second ring and Taylor began to ramble straight away.

"Y/n! I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. Its all my fault-"

"Taylor, hey, calm down. Take a breath. What happened?"

Taylor looked back at Carter and took a few deep breaths. "Carter got hurt at the park. We're at the hospital. I'm pretty sure he broke his leg." She bit her lip as the emotions she kept inside to not worry Carter started to spill out. "Okay I'm on my way!"

You hung up right after you said that and when the nurse came in the room Taylor had to excuse herself for a moment to step inside the bathroom and try to get a grip. She felt responsible; if she hadn't turned away, even though it was only for a split second, Carter probably wouldn't be hurt.

She came back out a moment later when she managed to dry her tears and get rid of the tight lump in her throat. The nurse and Carter were giggling as she held out a cast for him, explaining what was gonna happen. "Mom! I get a cast!" Carter grinned at Taylor, his tears now dried as well and Taylor chuckled.

She walked back over to him and he grabbed her hand again, a small smile on Taylor's lips. "Yeah? That's so cool buddy." He nodded his head as the nurse put the cast on his leg and that's exactly when you walked in the room.

Carters head shot up at the sound of your rushed footsteps. "Mommy!" He held his hand out for you and you breathed out a sigh of relief, grabbing his hand and using your free hand to run your fingers through his hair.

"You doing alright buddy?" He nodded and started to talk about his cast to you and Taylor started to feel emotional all over again. She saw the opportunity to slip out of the room and back in the small bathroom to try to control herself. You startled her by knocking on the door.

"Yeah?" You could hear her voice crack. "Taylor? Babe can you let me in?" Taylor sighed but opened the door a moment later. You closed it behind you and put your hand on her shoulder. "Hey, Taylor, what's wrong?"

She felt the tears starting to fall from her eyes again. "It's my fault." You shook your head but Taylor couldn't shake the guilt. "No, y/n, I looked away from him. Only for a split second but I looked away. If I didn't look away he wouldn't be hurt, he wouldn't need this cast on his leg. He's so small y/n, he's so fragile, he wouldn't need that cast if I didn't fucking look away." She braced her hands on the sink and sobbed.

You put your arms around her back, kissing the side of her neck. "Taylor listen to me." She sighed sadly but turned around, your hands on her cheeks and her hands moving to rest on yours.

"This isn't your fault. He's a kid, he's gonna get hurt, but that's not your fault. I know you; I know how much you love him and how much you care about him. I know you'd never let him get hurt on purpose. I know it was an accident and it wasn't your fault, baby, not at all. Besides, he seems pretty happy about that cast. Says he's gonna have all his friends sign it."

Taylor giggled and leaned her forehead on yours, sniffling and gazing into your eyes. "I just love him so much." You nodded your head. "I know you do, baby. I do too. He'll be alright in no time." Taylor smiled and pressed a lingering kiss to your cheek.

When you stepped out of the bathroom a moment later Carter was sitting on the bed with the cast on his leg and a sharpie in his hands. "Hey buddy. Doing good?" Taylor asked him as she walked over to him. "Yeah! Mom?" Taylor smiled and stroked his cheek. "Yeah honey?" He took her hand and put the sharpie in between her fingertips. "Can you sign it first?" Taylor grinned, looking up at you to find you staring back at her. "Of course, I'd be honored." She signed his cast 'love, mommy' making Carter smile from ear to ear. She added a little heart as well and when she finished he put his arms around her neck and hugged her.

"See babe? I think the only person who thought it was your fault, was you." Taylor smiled up at you and wrapped her arms around Carter's back. "I love my little family so much. I just love both of you, more than anything else in the world."
