Papa Smurf welcomed Nick and the others in, and Smurfwillow pulled up chairs for him and Nick to sit and talk. Nick sat down, nervous but  interested in the words of the elder pair of Smurfs.

"Allow us to introduce ourselves," Papa said, gesturing to himself and his female counterpart, "I'm Papa Smurf and this is Smurfwillow, we're the leaders of the Smurfs."

"Nice to meet you two," Nick said with a nervous smile.

"Likewise," said Willow, "and you are?"

"Right," said Nick, straightening up, "My name is Nicholas Stayne, The Sorcerer Smurf."

"I see that," Papa said, "so you mind telling us where you came from?"

Smurfette, Hefty, Clumsy, Lily, and Stormy all gathered around with him and Smurfwillow, listening to the story of Nick's transformation into The Sorcerer Smurf.

"Oh, dear boy," Papa said, reeling a little, "I'm sorry you had to go through that."

"Yeah, me too," said Nick, with Smurfette's hand on his shoulder.

"Where did you get that weird weapon?" asked Smurfwillow, who had been listening in the back of the room.

"Oh, this?" Nick said, "Mallorca gave it to me along with the cloak and medallion."

"What is it?" Willow asked.

"This is a Hilt of Hekkador, a device that can change into any kind of weapon you can imagine."

Nick showed them as he activated the device. It extended into a sword, then it changed into a bow and arrow, an axe, a shield, a hammer, and finally a spear.

"I prefer to go with the sword, as it feels easier to hold and it's a weapon of a more civilized time." Nick explained as it morphed back into a sword, "only two of these weapons exist among the magical community."

"That's both smurftastic and amazing!" Smurfette said as the blade retracted.

"Indeed," said Papa, who was more interested in something else regarding the boy. "That medallion of yours, you said Mallorca gave it to you as well?"

"Yeah," Nick said, knowing where he was going, "every champion chosen by Mallorca has one. It acts as a focusing and absorbing point for our magic, which in turn enhances our inherited and natural skills."

"Every champion?" Stormy asked, confused. "I thought you were the only Sorcerer Smurf,"

"The Sorcerer Smurf isn't a person," Nick said.

The others leaned in, interested in knowing the truth.

"It's a mantle," Nick finished.

Nick then threw down a spell that created constructs of past events showing them all the story of the past Sorcerer Smurfs.

"Long ago," Nick explained, "Mallorca and his mentor Katirus, the first human wizards in this realm, were attacked by a threat from another. They were able to defeat it, but Mallorca was weakened and his mentor was killed. Before Katirus died, he transferred his magic into his protege, tasking him with finding a champion to pass it onto. Mallorca, knowing that he had to pass on his magic, and that a human champion could not fully contain it, looked for any available options. One day, he discovered that the Smurfs, an inhabitant race in this realm, had a natural ability to contain their inherent magic. He decided that if he turned his champions into Smurfs, not only could they contain their magic, but their abilities would be increased tenfold."

"So he used the form of a Smurf to help his champions contain their newfound magic?" Smurfette asked, confused.

"Yes," Nick said, continuing, "And furthermore, since Smurfs live longer than humans, they would be able to carry out their tasks for several years to come."

"Did it work?" asked Stormy.

"Yes, Mallorca tested it on a champion he had chosen, and it worked like a charm. Along with the power and the medallion, each champion was given knowledge of other realms that existed outside of this one. For many years the champions defended this realm, and after one fell, a new one arose. It lasted long and well, until..."

"Until what?" Papa asked, concern in his voice.

"Until one day, when Mallorca chose a champion, and he chose recklessly. Ignotus Cadaverous, The Fallen One as some called him, became greedy and corrupted, refusing to relinquish his power after he almost destroyed an entire kingdom with it, instead seeking to use it to enslave other realms and destroy any contenders."

"Which led him to you," Smurfette noted, seeing where he was headed, with only one question remaining. "How do you know all this?"

Nick looked at her, sadness in his voice, "Mallorca, he... he told me all of it the day I arrived here. The day became a champion. The day that my mother died."
