I woke up at the crack of dawn, still in bed, trying to go back to sleep before getting up.
"Alright, Nick," I said, yawning a little, "Up and at 'em."
I got up, washed off, got dressed, and headed out the door.
It had been a year since the attack on Smurf Village, and things were going well. The village was rebuilt after the attack, and the other Smurfs had gotten adjusted to me being around. I even threw in some ideas for some improvements with the village defenses along with adding in some magical protection.
Our social lives were doing better, too. Me, Smurfette, and our friends crossed over to my home realm from time to time, and they liked it. We went to see movies, to get food at good restaurants, to visit the museums, and to experience other places of interest I knew they would like.
We even brought back some stuff to our realm, and the other Smurfs liked it a lot. In the last year, the village had become more vibrant, more diverse, and more advanced than it had been before, which would help with the times ahead.
I passed some other Smurfs who were getting a lecture by Brainy on how to use touch screen technology, and they seemed to enjoy it.
"There are many ways to use this," Brainy told them as he explained the Internet, "what matters most is being smart with what you've got."
Wise words, I thought as I walked off towards Smurfette's house.
Our relationship had been going strong so far. We had gone on a few dates from time to time, sometimes in my realm, sometimes here, and we learned about some things that one of us liked that grabbed the other's interest. For me it was Smurfette's interest in drama and performing, for her it was my affinity towards film and movies. We helped each other out when it got tough, and we talked about the feelings that we had that just needed to be heard, and all the while, we grew close together, two misfit Smurfs in a crazy world. And so far, I'm okay with that.
I walked up to her house and knocked on the door. She opened it, glad to see me.
"Hey, Nick," she said, giving me a hug, "how are you doing?"
"Good, you?" I asked.
"Yeah, what brings you here?"
"Well, let's just say I got us something I'm sure you'll like!"
"What is it?" she asked, cautiously optimistic.
I pulled out two little pieces of paper and showed it to her.
"I got us tickets to the village's production of Bye Bye Birdie!" I said, excited.
"No way!" Smurfette said, grabbing her ticket, "and we're close to the front row, too!"
"Figured you would like it," I said with a smile.
"You know me. So tonight at eight right?"
"Well, I got a meeting with a nearby emissary from a place named Abelagot from five-thirty to seven-fifteen, so I might be a bit late."
"Don't worry, it'll be fine."
"Thanks," I said, floating off, "see you tonight!"
"Oh, wait, hold on!" Smurfette yelled.
I floated back down, interested in what else she had to say.
"What, what is it?" I asked, curious.
"I forgot to show you something we've been working on," she told me, "come on! No peeking!"
I obeyed and kept my eyes shut as she held my hand and led me to what she wanted me to see. After an extremely long walk, we finally stopped.
"Okay!" Smurfette told me, "open them!"
I did so, and I saw all the other Smurfs were gathered around at the wall before The Forbidden Forest. I looked at the wall and saw that it was painted with a mural of all of the Smurfs, every single one, including me.
"What do you think?" Papa asked me.
"I...I'm speechless," I said, astounded by the sight.
"Well, welcome home," Smurfette said as she stood there, holding me close.
After the other Smurfs left, me and Smurfette stood there at the wall, once a symbol of division, now one of unity in diversity.
"Thank you," I told her, thankful.
"It's the least we could do," she said with a smile.
"So what do you wanna do now?" I asked, curious.
"That depends."
"On what?"
A dragonfly then appeared, and Smurfette hopped on giving me a sly look.
"If you can keep up!" she said as she flew into the air.
I grinned, and then flew up and after her. We soared through the air, enjoying our time together as we flew into the horizon. Smurfette had pulled me from my pit of despair into a new future, and a new purpose.
Safeguard the realms and all they stand for. Stay my magic from the innocent and preserve good will amongst them. Spread unity to all realms and prevent them from succumbing to chaos. Do so until death, whatever the cost. This is my mission now.
I am a new man now, wiser, more aware. No matter what happens, whatever comes my way, I will uphold this creed, for it is who I am. I am Nicholas Stayne. I am The Sorcerer Smurf.
