song: this night has opened my eyes - the smiths

~

"WHAT THE HELL?" as brooke opened the door to the cabin, it looked as if a hurricane had hit straight threw. she had just returned from school thinking she could spend the rest of her day napping after her excruciating chemistry test. guess not.

all the lights and even glass from the windows were blown out, furniture flung around and broken to pieces.

"dad?" she cautiously stepped over the shards of glass on the floor, crunching beneath her boots. whimpers were heard from behind el's door as brooke grew closer. her father must've already left for work.

"el?" no response, just more sobs growing louder and louder. "it's me, brooke." the door automatically opened just a tad. she stepped in the room to find the little girl curled up in the covers of her bed.

her only guess was that the girl and her dad got into another fight again. they were always so loud and especially destructive when it came to el. she used her powers in frustration.

"hey," she cooed, coming over to sit on the edge of the bed. "everything's ok, just calm down." she ran a hand over el's covered legs, trying her best to get her to stop crying. el peeked her head up from under the blanket, sitting up and wiping her wet face.

"hopper is like papa." papa was her father figure while she was held captive in the lab. "he lies." that man was a sick son of a bitch, using as innocent as she was for her abilities. he poked and prodded with her all of her life. ha had taken her childhood away.

"dad is nothing like that man." el scooted over toward the wall so brooke can lay down beside her. "he just wants to keep you safe just like i do." the little girl sniffled, nodding her head as brooke looked at her with soft eyes.

"come here." she opened her arms as el leaned into her chest. she held her there, running her fingers over el's soft curls.

"i know it seems like he is bossing you around, but he just cares so much about you."

el didn't understand that hopper saw her as his own daughter. that he cared and loved for her as though he was her father. she just saw him as a threat, that he was keeping her in this cabin just like her 'papa' kept her in that lab all of those awful years.

"i care does much about you too el, even if it doesn't seem like it." brooke said with tears in her eyes. el clutched to the girl even tighter, like she was going to vanish.
