RING!
RING!!
RING!!!

the little pink telephone boomed through the quiet room. brooke swiped the hair from her face and groaned as the lights shone in bright from behind the curtains.

she finally reached over still lying on her stomach, slapping around the end table until she was able latch onto the phone. "yes?" her voice rough and cracked as she let it fall on the pillow beside her head. too tired to hold it.

"HOPPER!" robin shouted into her ear. brooke cringed, her head pounded and all she wanted to do was go back to sleep.

"birdy, what do you want?" she rolled on her back, brushing against billy so he mumbled and draped a heavy arm over her waist.

"i'm sick and tired of you going completely m.i.a. for days." brooke rolled her eyes even though she knew this was coming. she hasn't seen her two best friends recently except at school. she didn't realize how much time she's been spending it with someone else.

"look, i'm sorry. something came up last night and i-" billy was the one to groan loudly against her other ear, snuggling further into her shoulder, "who're you talking to?" his morning voice deep and rough, which of course was heard over the phone.

"oh my fucking god." robin cried loudly, knowing exactly who that was. never thinking in a million years her friend would skip school over a boy, let alone spend the night with one.

"wait what time is it?" she ignored her friends comment, hand rubbing her forehead to ease the oncoming migraine.

"it's already 5th period dingus, you do the math." brooke shot up, peeking over to her alarm clock that wasn't set. it was already 11:25.

"fuck me." she thought she could get up early enough to make it to school so she could take a test that was crucial to her grade. what a fucking let-down.

"well maybe if you weren't busy swapping spit with mullet, then you'd be able to graduate." brooke went to argue, but it wouldn't help the situation. robin would still be mad at her either way.

she knew the girl was using her lunch break to call her at the outside pay phone. a pang in her chest, realizing she let down the only person in her life who has been there for everything.

"look i'm really sorry, ok? i promise we can do something soon and i'll be at school tomorrow." she knew deep down robin wasn't that pissed, just concerned if her best friend was dead or not.

"alright, kid. you'll just have to tell me all the about your night later." she earned a cackle from brooke, the boy stirred more beside her, nudging his nose toward her neck.

"i hate you." robin was giggling too, "i hate you more." as line went dead she put the phone back down, turning back over to face her current issue.

"what you so loud for, babe? go back to sleep." billy mumbled sleepy, pulling her closer to him so he could curl into her side. she gagged at his horrible pet name, but didn't exactly pull away either.

instead, she let him rest on her chest and played with his curly locks. she could smell his lingering woody cologne and stale cigarettes which she quite liked.

she figured her dad would be home, up and ready to head off to work again. el already at the table for breakfast, though brooke would rather skip out on. relaxing back into the pillows, she laced her arms around the boy and closed her eyes. thoughts spinning in her head and she couldn't stop them.
