song: lovesong - the cure

~

"WILL YOU JUST GET IN THE DAMN CAR ALREADY?" billy was ever so irritated he just wanted to take her home safely this time. brooke brushed past him with her hands up in mocking defense, slipping into the camaro before he shut her door behind.

when he hopped in the driver's side and turned on the engine, brooke noticed how different he was. like a bad different; tired, exhausted.

odd enough because it only seemed like he could go on for days with as much energy as he showed off. now he just looked so worn.

they didn't speak as they pulled out back into the night. brooke silently opened his console and put in a cassette. the 1984 album of van halen, definitely not billy's style but something less thrash.

billy never let anyone mess with his music, especially girls he brought home after school or to the movies. they would always want to listen to some cindi lauper or whitney houston shit which made him rather put a gun to his head.

he tapped her leg and motioned for her to open up the glove box for cigs of course. she opened the carton, passing him one and grabbing one for herself anyway.

the lighter that was picked out of her pocket was now held to his lips while he drove. he immediately inhaled a deep breath, exhaling and seemed to immediately stop being so tensed up while it lasted.

"billy what happened to you?" was muffled as she lit up her own and turned to him, his eyes were glued to the road ahead.

"brooke, i said drop it." he took another drag, hands so tight on the wheel that his knuckles where white. tension starting to form between them.

"why won't you tell me?" she threw her hands up dramatically, staring back at him to wait for an answer. it was harmless she thought, just wanted to help.

"just fucking drop it-" anger was boiling in him now, his grip on the wheel got tighter so he wouldn't have to hit anything.

"no, billy! i won't-" shouldn't have pressed on.

"it was my dad! alright?!" he shouted so suddenly. his voice boomed throughout the car so loud it made her flinch back into her seat.

"is that what you fucking wanted to hear?!" billy was like a ticking time bomb, and once you set him off it only took a matter of time before he blew up.
