Y/N was up late at night, so she decided to take a walk around the territory to clear her head of any thoughts that were preventing her from sleeping.

Her ears pinned back as she heard something rustling. Thankfully, being a Delta, she had trained her hearing and smell to be able to pick up noises and scents better than any other rank did.

She looked to where the noise was coming from, thankful that she was downwind, so that whatever the intruder was wouldn't smell her.

As soon as a figure emerged, Y/N jumped, tackling the unknown wolf to the ground. She tried her best to wrestle it down, but her training in combat against other wolves was lacking, to say the least, and she was almost immediately thrown off and pinned to the ground, and the wolf above her snarled, gnashing his teeth.

"Who are you?" he growled. Y/N struggled, trying to throw the dark-pelt off of her, but the opposing wolf was much stronger, evidently.

The wolf shoved her forcefully down to the ground again when she had finally managed to get some leverage, and she snarled in frustration.

"I am Y/N of the Red Tribe," she said, her voice growling. "You'd better reveal yourself before I howl for someone to come help me."

The male pinning her down huffed and stepped off of her. She rolled back upright and growled again, hackles raised defensively. She watched as he rolled his blue eyes and continued on his way.

He began to walk into the Alpha den, and Y/N was tempted to jump in front of him and defend her new family, but held off when she took in his posture. He wasn't at all aggressive, which was usually the telltale sign that a wolf was going to challenge an Alpha, so Y/N just watched.

She followed him inside, and was surprised when Rei lifted her head.

"Dabi...?" she asked, careful not to wake anyone up.

"Yeah, Mom, it's me."

Rei looked pleased, and she leaned against Endeavor, who was fast asleep after a day of working hard to help reinforce the nursery den walls, in preparation for the new litters in spring.

Rei hummed, almost asleep again. "I see you've met your mate, already." She yawned and fell asleep again, letting Endeavor's tail fall over her comfortingly.

Y/N growled in frustration, but Dabi didn't seem at all bothered by the news. She walked over to where she had been sleeping the past few nights, and watched as Dabi followed her, laying down beside her but not so close that they were touching. She huffed, thankful that he at least didn't try and stick right up next to her like mated pairs usually did.

When Y/N woke up again, she found Dabi still asleep, despite nobody else in the den. She got up and stretched, careful not to wake him up.

As she padded outside of the den, everyone was already busy even though the sun had barely risen. Hunt packs were being assigned for the day, and Dustbunny nodded at Y/N as she joined them.

"Y/N, would you care to join the rising hunt, or the lowering hunt? Full sun hunt has already been assigned," the dust-pelt told her.

"I'll join the lowering hunt," she said, nodding in thanks. "I would like to request a partner to hare hunt before full sun, though."

"I'm sure that Berry can join you." The stone-pelt perked up at the mention of his name.

"There will be no need," a low voice spoke from behind them. Y/N looked over at Endeavor, lowering her head in a respectful greeting to the Alpha. "Dabi will be joining you. You two need to bond if you are to be mated."

Y/N nodded. Once Endeavor left, her ears dropped. She wasn't sure why she seemed to resent the dark-pelt so much, but she did.

She turned to enter the Alpha den, going over to where Dabi was sleeping and nudging him with her nose. When that didn't work, she huffed and rolled her eyes before grabbing his ear between her teeth and yanking.

With a yelp, he woke up, his stunning blue eyes narrowing at her.

"You didn't have to do that," he muttered bitterly, rubbing at his ear with his paw.

"Well, maybe next time you should wake up the first time I try and wake you up," Y/N shot back. "Now c'mon, Endeavor wants us to hunt together. He says it would be a great opportunity to bond."

He rolled his eyes and stretched, and Y/N began walking out. She looked behind her, watching as Dabi followed her, yawning.

"Why do you feel the need to hunt so early?" he asked, following as they left the boundaries of the den area.

"Prey will be most willing to come out in the morning," she explained, sniffing for any scent of hare. "And I'm a Delta. I've been training for years, and this has become instinct for me."

Dabi shook his fur out after a chunk of snow fell on him, and Y/N snorted in amusement. "Well its ridiculous if you ask me," he growled. "Prey will usually be out during full sun, since it's warmest then."

"It's warmest when clouds aren't covering the skies," Y/N countered. "And when the sun rises is usually when there are the least clouds during snowfall. It's a miracle that you manage to survive by yourself for weeks at a time during snowfall if you don't even know that."

"I usually just scavenge," Dabi explained, his ears flicking around every once in a while. "A lot of Peltless leave traps for deer and such during these seasons, so I usually just search around for those and take them."

"And the Peltless are okay with it?"

"Well, none of them have come after me for it yet, so I assume not."

Y/N stiffened when she caught the scent of rabbit, and Dabi paused when she did. He glanced around, looking for whatever had made her stop and taking note of the short cliff beside them, and Y/N assumed that she had stronger senses due to being a Delta.

"Do you smell that?" Dabi shook his head no. "Stay here. I'll case it over here."

"Why do you have to chase over to me? Can't you run it down by yourself?" Dabi asked. Y/N sighed.

"You obviously have a lot to learn," she said, flicking her tail at him. "Hares are too fast to chase down. Why do you think I needed someone to hare hunt with?"

"Because you enjoy my company?" he joked.  Y/N rolled her eyes, and began to circle around so that she would be able to chase the rabbit towards Dabi.

Once she had made sure it would run to Dabi, she jumped out from her cover, chasing after it. She nearly caught up to it enough to give it one last nip at the ankles, but her eyes widened and her ears pinned back as she noticed Dabi crash into her, trying to catch the hare.

I finished writing this chapter well over a month ago lmao oops anyways please continue to support the blm movement because even if it's not 'trending' anymore the injustices towards black citizens are not a trend for people to just hop onto in order to try and get their fifteen minutes of fame and also the killers of Breonna Taylors and Elijah McClain not to mention countless others are still free and this should not be looked at as a trend and instead as a serious issue that needs to be dealt with
