Y/N and Dabi rushed through the woods along the ledge, hoping to get to the Red Tribe's den area before the pack of Peltless Selsas did, but it wasn't looking like it was going to happen too soon.
She spotted something in the distance, and sped up so that she could get to it quicker.
It was a bridge. They'd be able to get up to the top of the ledge with it.
Did the Peltless leave it...?
"Dabi!" she howled. He ran up to her, and immediately rushed up it. It didn't seem stable at all, really, judging by how it wobbled when he had climbed up, but she didn't have the time to hesitate.
Once she was up top, she and Dabi began sprinting their way back to the Tribe. Before long, they were at the den area, which didn't seem to be disturbed at all.
"Dabi! Y/N!" Rei cried. The snow-pelt rushed up to the two, sniffing them and checking them for injuries. "We were so worried when you didn't come back yesterday! There was no sign of you, and we- we thought-"
"Mom, we don't have time to talk, I'm sorry. Where's Endeavor?" Dabi regretfully had to cut his mother off, but she didn't seem to mind when she saw how serious he was.
"In the Alpha den," she told him. Y/N was off like a bullet, with Dabi trailing after her and barely lagging behind him. When they got there, Endeavor was about to ask where they had been, but Y/N cut him off.
"Peltless," she said, panting. "They're coming here, and they have strange weapons."
"They're on their way here, and from what Y/N had said, they seem to be aggressive and ill intentioned," Dabi said, walking up next to her. Endeavor looked at least slightly impressed at his eldest son's newfound interest in protecting his Tribe.
Y/N nodded to confirm his claims, and Endeavor immediately took action. He jogged out of the cave, howling to gather everyone's attention.
Y/N stayed back, anxiously pacing back and forth. She hadn't been involved in any fights aside from the occasional scuffle between Tribes, and she was beginning to worry.
Dabi walked up to her, stepping on her tail to get her to stop, and when she turned around with a yelp to glare at him, the amusement in his eyes was unmistakable.
"You need to stop pacing," he told her. "It'll only stress you out more."
Her ears pinned back a bit, but her anger wasn't directed at Dabi. He seemed to sense her unease and stepped forward, resting his head on top of hers and letting her bury her nose in his inky black pelt.
Finally, once she had calmed down, they both left the cave, watching as tribemates scrambled around. Y/N took the lead and rushed forwards, heading down the slope and helping herd pups into the more secluded shelter that was hidden behind a bunch of bushes. It would be a tight fit, since almost all of them were about ready to begin their training, but it was all that they could do.
She grabbed a couple of the younger pups by their scruffs, beginning to drag them into the shelter while they protested, saying that they wanted to help. The elderly wolves also began to squeeze into the shelter, along with any expectant mothers, who were just recently beginning to take.
Y/N's head snapped up when she noticed the yelping of the Peltless growing closer, and she looked over to where they were coming from. She missed the expectant mother moving past her, headed towards the shelter, and she quickly looked over to her when she heard her desperate yelp.
Y/N quickly ran over, biting the arm of the Peltless who had grabbed Quickthorn and was trying to drag her away. The Peltless yelped in surprise, trying to shake her off but only succeeding in making her clamp down harder. She was determined to not let the Peltless get her Tribemates. Any of them.
She felt someone else tackle the Peltless, sending all three tumbling to the ground, and when she looked up she was met with Dabi's icy blue eyes. "Are you okay?" he asked, to which she replied with a nod. The Peltless scurried off, and Y/N escorted the expectant mother to the shelter.
A shot rang out, and Y/N could tell that it was headed for her, due to how close it was getting. Her ears pinned back, and she looked over to where the ranged attack was coming from. Silver glinted in the sunlight, heading towards her, and she was frozen in fear. She could distantly hear the Peltless being pushed back, and then everything sped up again.
She braced herself for an impact, but when she got it it was more solid than she had expected it to be, and there was more surface area.
She was sent tumbling to the ground, her own limbs getting tangles in those of another, and when everything calmed down she immediately looked around, seeing that the Peltless had seemingly run off. Unaware of what was going on, she looked around frantically, unable to feel anything expect for the fact that something was wrong. So horribly, terribly wrong.
That was when she spotted it. Or him, rather.
Lightning was laying on the ground, the snow around him stained a dark red from the wound in his shoulder. She was relieved to see that he was breathing fine, if not a little labored, but the Zetas were quick to come out of hiding and help him, letting him lean against them and they went to the healer's den. Y/N moved to follow, feeling remorse over the fact that Lightning had to get hurt in order to save her, but she was called by Endeavor.
Lightning looked over his shoulder at her, giving her a smile and a stiff nod, telling her to go see the Alpha, and reluctantly she turned around.
Endeavor was up on his spot at the ledge that hung over the entrance to the Alpha's Den, where he usually stood to make sure everyone could see and hear him.
He motioned to the entrance to the Alpha Den, where Dabi was waiting for her, and she headed towards him, giving his cheek a quick stroke with her own cheek, and he followed her into the Alpha's Den, where Endeavor had gone in to wait for them.
"Dabi, Y/N," he began. "We were lucky to have to casualties after this. Lightning was the only one who got severely injured. While I'm glad that we were able to come away from this mostly unscathed, I'm afraid that I have underestimated just how much of a threat that the Peltless pose to us. That they're willing to pose to us." He began pacing, and Rei lifted her head from where she had been resting, smacking her tail on the ground a couple times to tell her mate to go over to her.
Endeavor moved towards the snow-pelt, burying his nose in her pelt for a moment and he seemed at least somewhat soothed. "We need not only to warn the other Tribes of them, but also to gain backup from them. The full moon is in only a few days. Y/N, as the daughter of the Alpha of the Moonlit Tribe, they won't attack upon seeing you, and therefore I would like to send you and Dabi to go and warn them. You will meet up with us again and the Full Moon Council, and hopefully bring more reinforcements. We will then speak about what has been going on, and warn the others."
Y/N bowed her head respectfully. "Should we head out right away?"
"It can wait until tomorrow," Endeavor said, shaking his head. "You've only just returned, and after being immediately thrown into a fight you'll need your rest."
